One japanese publisher away from getting walkmanned? Really?

I assume it's just hyperbole or a bit of panic... but I do agree that Sony need to make a move.

I really expected them to make a move while Microsoft were tied up with Activision and now it's basically complete and they will be free to make another move.

The hyperbole does nothing helpful, we already know the interim CEO is a person who loves m&a AND he's japanese.

As of the latest we also know Naughty Dog is working on their next single player game. My speculation is that Sony realized their internal studio workflows are not set up to be conducive to making GAAS and they're going to be looking to add external partners to handle that aspect of the IP stable while keeping their current studios doing what they do best.

It's certainly not a reasonable take to say that one JP acquisition will end up with Sony shoved out of the market like the Walkman was, that seems like such an egregiously bad take that you have to question whether the poster needs some blood pressure medication.

We can't see the future clearly, but none of us would like if Microsoft bought Capcom or Square. It would hurt and I am willing to say that.

They've already gone too far IMO.

I don't think it's a serious risk. Xbox corporate culture is incompatible with japanese work culture. Can't imagine they'd want to work on 18 month contracts either. We already saw this when Shinji Mikami left Tango.

I agree, it's far lower risk and we can just look to Tango Gameworks for the result of such a move. All the major names gone, all the talent exiting in a flow.

It wouldn't benefit anyone for them to even try.
