Nintendo can’t play the latest AAA games most studios are putting out. Final Fantasy 7Remake, Baldurs gate 3, WuKong, HellDivers, COD etc.
Nintendo normally gets the lower powered exclusives. Octopath, SMT5 etc etc. Otherwise we’d have Metaphor on Switch now.

We’ll have to wait till Switch 2 to see how they play 3rd party.
They might make something that can play modern games. Otherwise if they do something low powered again, I see them being the same as Switch. Lots of exclusives but not the latest AAA like Metaphor. Maybe they can play Elden Ring, but will they be able to play Elden Ring 2 etc
It will again struggle to run modern games. Death Stranding 2 on Switch? If it can even run it the game will run and look like dogshit.

Same goes for GTA6, Elder Scrolls 6, Crysis 4, next Mass Effect etc.

Let's be real neither needed each other when that deal was signed lol. However he needed Sony more at the time. Sony however wanted him for the PR of bagging him.

In the grand scheme of themes the Death Stranding IP isn't worth all that much but it's still makes them look weak. He played in their faces yesterday launching their own game on a rival platform... When they launched a new console.

Clearly a coordinated effort between him and the green team.
It was a shadowdrop. He could drop it any day, on the usual Friday or Tuesday, next week or whatever but he chose this day specifically as a big "fuck you" to Sony on the day of Ps5 Pro and their financial announcement. "I'm finally free and I'm going to Xbox".

Most likely yes.

Unless Nintendo has invested in some great tech, even an optional super dock to enhance it. Who knows.
Nintendo is quite cheap so I doubt it but they might be trying to come back to modern gen gaming.

Nintendo is a generation behind in Tech.

At best the Switch 2 will get current gen games which are also available on the PS4/Xbone too.

Games like DS1 and Elden Ring will appear.

I seriously doubt this, especially when it was Sony that set him up with a studio in the first place. The shadow drop probably had nothing to do with Sony's PS5 Pro. Probably just wanted to release it on a Friday so people can enjoy it over the weekend. Lotta games get Friday releases.

Probably shadow dropped rather than heavily advertised even out of respect for Sony

Rare chance they might make an add on that brings them to current gen. They might feel confident, or they just still to what they are doing.
Will certainly push PS which is always good

Imagine if Kojima signs a deal with Microsoft for DS3.
I could see a gamepass deal tbh. Big mistake by Sony they already gave Kojima full creative + funded the whole thing including the studio, tech & engine. What does this means for Physint. Sony is spending so much money for time exclusivity where they don’t own it’s just bad business. Why fund Kojima games while also letting him use tech & engine for it to be publish on PC & competing platform. What is Sony or PS getting? Marketing? If so they are over spending for simple marketing

Sony needs to stop doing 3rd party deal where they spend an absorbent amount of money for things they don’t own. Just fully acquire Square Enix & Kadokawa/Fromsoft fully acquire Hoyoverse for mobile & you cover japan/asia, rpg/jrpg + iconic/legendary ip (acquire dragon quest because square enix doesn’t own that) it’s the same thing w funding Stellar blade when they don’t own the ip. Just acquire or partner w studio in a multi game deal to make these game maybe even use PS/Sony ip

Yep, all about the margins.

Their userbase has shown they will pay £60 - £70 for technologically archaic software as long as they have good playability.

With Sony dominating the power end of the console market, and being the best/only place to play some big AAA titles, I think it makes sense for Sony to spend less on securing third-party IPs and exclusives.

If he wants to go under with Xbox, let him. Kojima without MGS isn't the same anyway.

People saying Death Stranding or MGS doesn’t work without Kojima are short sighted. Eventually someone comes along with a new vision and respect for the source material.

From a business standpoint this made no sense, and Sony is creating a precedence that will bite them in the ass later.

Just the other day that idiot at Sony was saying they haven’t done a good job of being there at the beginning of an IP, and yet they just gave away the rights here. They also don’t own Spider-Man.

It’s basically down to milking God of War, Last of Us, Ghost of Tsushima and Horizon. That’s it, PlayStation is on the way to become Japanese Ubisoft.

Id say some stories, worlds, games etc are harder to work without the creator.

For example Game of Thrones was pretty obvious it doesnt work ( needs the writers story) . LOTR is struggling coming up with new stuff.

But then you have Star Wars. Some games and stories are great outside of George Lucas indeas and some have been a disaster.

I cant really see someone filling in the MGS story without Kojima. Which its mostly done anyway. Sequels and remakes, yeah they can be done. But it would take someone unique to do it.
Its his wacky take on the world and he’s pretty unique i story telling/lore

I guess it depends on the type of story, lore, game etc.

Insomniac stuck making marvel is actually a huge bummer. But they’d rather sell off Death Stranding and license more from Disney.

The thing is… even if Marvel is now junk to the point they needed Downey Jr. back … I do expect Insomniac to pull it off just because X men has an epic ton of potential.

So Sony’s marvel partnership will pay off I’d bet because it’s Insomniac.

With that said, what was more valuable… the IPs being licensed or Insomniac to pull it off? Devs teams over IPs everyday of the week. That is the only way. Star Wars and Halo are now piles of shit.

Sony partnering with Kojima AGAIN for a future IP action game gives the impression they still want to work with him. I mean you’ve been working with the dude since MGS2.

Selling Death Stranding and not offering Kojima everything he wants to buy his company is mistake when his games have defined all PlayStation consoles since the PS1.

Sequels and remakes are not the only things one can do with an IP.

It could be a spin-off, it could be a cameo in another game, it could be a movie/show/anime, it could be a soundtrack in the next PlayStation Live Concert.

And yes, it could also be a reboot of the franchise without the creator. Might be a total disaster, might be a masterpiece, but it would be possible.

This is true and releasing DS to go multiplayer is a shortsighted move

OTOH, Kojima is a batshit insane mental case who is terminally ill with Hollywood brain rot from the silicon valley mind virus.

Blasphemy in this thread. Kojima has defined PlayStation.

Yes, Kojima needs a leash. I agree that he’s too obsessed with spending money on Hollywood talent but… he’s still got it. So I’m onboard no matter what.

Xbox lost the console war. Console sales have flatlined and xbox owners aren't buying games in a scale that could ever threaten Sony. We're also 4 years into the generation so it's not like there are many chances for PS5 owners to migrate to Xbox at this point.

Just look at user review counts for recently released multiplatform games. Dragon Age Veilguard has >2200 user reviews for the PS5 and 250 for Xbox Series.

It just doesn't matter that games are releasing on Xbox. This generation is lost for Microsoft.

Thats no question. Xbox is kinda no more and will be fully rebranded as Gamepass and Windows store as they license out console OS to third party boxes like the first steam machine concepts.

Sony split its stock. Shuttered failed studios. And sold off Death Stranding. They probably just want cash. Which they will get considering new hardware launching.

It’s unfortunate to lose a Kojima Ip.
