This came out of a strategic investment from Netease after Bungie went independent ditching Activision in 2018.
Not for me but I would say good for revenue if it succeeds and Sony's venture into mobile market. I mean Diablo mobile made billions.

Speaking off not on consoles or PC.

Exactly.
Its not for me, but Sony need some success in those markets.
Otherwise its just gonna be MS, Tencent, EA, Take2, Epic etc etc making billions in these non SP game markets. You cant stay at the top with just what they’ve got

The problem I foresee is the aesthetic wont hit with people in China and India is already dominated by PubG mobile and warzone- These 2 are the biggest markets for mobile shooter games and your game needs to be hit in these 2 to rake in the money. If people were put off by the steam CCU threads then the sensor tower data threads are going to be a bloodbath

Curious to see how this actually does but I don't see the hook for the casual mobile audience.
There is tough competition with CoD and Fortnite etc. on mobile not sure about sci-fi ones. Won't be the casual audience, there is a ''hardcore'' for fps on mobile. Seen some crazy set-ups from Asians/Indians gaming on mobile that's the market if they want big numbers.

Not sure how representative the video is, but if the game looks like this then it looks great for a mobile game.

Being a shooter, it doesn't aim casual audience.

I assume it aims to the audience (particularly the Asian one) of games like CoD Mobile, CoD Warzone Mobile, Fortnite, PUB Mobile, Garena Free Fire etc. plus I assume a small subset of Destiny fans who also play mobile games.

I assume being a partnership with Netease, it aims huge Asian mobile gaming market, particularly players who play shooter games on mobile and may have heard about Destiny but not have played it. Basically, a strategy to (get money and) grow the IP in Asia.

As reference for the size of this audience, Garena Free Fire achieved $1B in 2019, year where it was the most downloaded game in the AppStore with over 1 Billion downloads. In 2021 it had 150 million DAILY active users mostly from Asia and LATAM.

By December 2022, PUBG Mobile had accumulated around 1.3 billion downloads while grossing over $9 billion. CoD Mobile had 148 million downloads in first months, 270 million downloads within a year and over 500M in around a year and a half. In a bit more than 2 years it had generated over $1.5B. CoD Warzone Mobile had over 50M pre-registrations (ABK's record).

We heard about this years ago before Sony purchased Bungie and then silence. What took so long?

Netease even invested in Bungie at the time and it looked like they were going to acquire Bungie. I hope it's a success I'll try it for sure.

If it success it is free money to Sony.
After all there is no Bungie investment... Netease just licensed the IP for that mobile game.

People can't like it but that diversification is always good for the franchise.
Maybe some mobile player ends liking it and wants to try the original game on consoles / PC.

I will give it a try when releases out of curiosity.

Big budget mobile games require several years to be made, they require aprox. the same work than a console / PC AAA GaaS game from a generation or so ago. 5 years like in this one is on par.

Mobile games from big publishers take around that, even from casual genres because they made a ton of playtests, focus testing etc. and adjustments to the gameplay, UI/UX, progression, economy, soft launches, AB tests etc before release.

If it success it is free money to Sony.

Yep, other than some people from Bungie to send them assets and lore plus overviewing/reviewing/approving what they do, pretty likely Netease handled most of it. Sony / Bungie basically just cashes the money.

Shooters for mobile games are very popular in countries where a lot of players (in many cases kids/teenagers) can't afford a medium / high end PC or console, or consoles aren't available on their country. So help them grow in countries and demographics that don't directly overlap with the high end console & PC games.

In some of these countries most players are used to play mostly mobile or PC F2P games, but there is a good amount of players who also have a medium/high end PC or console. So a portion of these players may know about the IP thanks to the mobile game, and maybe may end becoming a fan and wanting to play the console / PC titles.

On top of that, pretty likely they'll cash a good amount of money with the mobile game alone and Netease is the one who pretty likely funded and developed most of it. So basically it's free money. It's a great move for Netease (who gets access to a top shooter IP), Bungie and Sony.

How does this not have a PS port? You would think after the success w Hoyoverse mobile game releasing simultaneously w mobile that PS own first party ip would release on PS4 & PS5.

Willing to bet this destiny rising game somehow gets a PC version skipping PS would be hilarious & further cement the investment & transition in moving to PC.

Destiny PC players are begging for a PC port. PS could get hella value of there 4+ billion dollar acquisition & get not only PC players but Xbox destiny players to get a PS console & play destiny rising get 100% from mtx which this game will be heavily I’m talking heavily monetize since it’s from NetEase.

Not having a PS port is honestly a miss opportunity even if it’s a mobile game Nintendo being pushing in getting many mobile game to there console. Even there own first party game like Pokemon unite which is a mobile game first received a console port allowing Nintendo console players to play on console the same mobile game.

Hell it be funny if this destiny rising mobile game was playable on Nintendo Switch 1 & 2 but not on PS but seeing how brain dead Sony/PS leadership has been I wouldn’t be surprised if that happen. Or if Xbox is more like a PC I could see software on PC that allows you to play mobile games on PC being able to be played on a Xbox device but not on PS.

The game itself looks good for a mobile & I certainly would try it if it was available on PS consoles, this Destiny mobile game on the PS portal or if PS6 is a switch like handheld hybrid would be amazing.

I think the hook will be you paying to upgrade your gear maxing your account with hundreds of thousands of dollars depending if you want a variety of builds & or you can grind it out which will take long

I think the hook is just the power fantasy

I appreciate that it’s not part of the main canon. Alternate timeline. Netease has pretty much free reign with this.

Stuff like customizable player housing is stuff wanted in the proper game.

As a fan, what I’m curious about is the new ideas that get received well and eventually to be desired in the main game. By being a hero shooter and having waifus… kinda what they wanted to do with cancelled hero shooter sequel anyway.

The intention with the mobile game is Asian expansion. With that said, if is very possible this can make more money than Bungie’s premium game.

I’ve signed up for the close beta. I def want to try it but by no means do I intend to play two Destiny games. I don’t game outside the home and Frontiers is way bigger and more exciting of a product initiative.

Shockingly… the community is not reacting how you’d expect and is excited … goth warlock waifu is a big part of this. Also check that out… they didn’t go all Sweet Baby Inc with the art direction…. Thankfully no concord detected.

Fans Before trailer…

“Pffttt Destiny mobile how dare you not invest everything into Destiny 2!”

Also fans…
