It's crazy that the digital PS5 is only $100 more than the Series S. Xbox is getting completely edged out of consoles this generation.

Let's say the series S is fine. But the more expensive series S with a larger SSD? WTF!! How the heck do you come up with a product like that.

Series S should be 250 USD at most bundled with a year of Gamepass ultimate. Otherwise it's a hard sell vs the ps 5 digital

Yeah, and I expect $350 will be the standard price. I don't think they will maintain the same lower-spec $299 version this time next year.

Anybody that knows a bit about hardware GPU could had guessed that in early 2020.

Cerny took his job with PS4 and focused in efficiency trying to minimize all bottlenecks.

MS used the same copy job from Xbox One X (copy of PS4 design) and invested in raw power... Series X is just the PS4 design boasted to higher TFs with a weird memory bus setup (yeap MS is not good at copy... they had to fuck something).

The results is no surprise since the two console launched.

But Xbots believed it was the Tools.

Didn't the leak indicate that that is the plan? I seem to recall seeing that the white Series S is out of production already, in favour of the black model with the 1TB flash.

Of course, even if they have stopped making the original Series S, they are still stinking up the shelves everywhere and will continue to for some time.

Of course it is.
Sony designed the PS5 so they can reduce the costs over time. And they get better discounts because they know that the next PlayStation console will sell over 100 million units.

Microsoft and the team around Phil Spencer went for the "We have the most terabobs!!!!1!" marketing line. And now they are stuck with a console that loses money even though it's already 3 years on the market. It's too expensive to make and the Xbox Series S is trash.
Big L for Microsoft Gaming. But most of them don't care, because Microsoft has unlimited money.

If it's actually true that Series X is as little as 25% of a 30M Xbox Series install base, it might already be doomed.

Some people tend to forget that Sony is a hardware manufacturer, that's its business. This is not the case with Microsoft.
No matter how much we remind it to the xbots. it'll never get into their heads.
Also good to keep in mind that Sony takes great pride in their legacy of innovation and quality. Aside from their brief and disastrous effort to make more low-end products in the late 90s, Sony has alway been one of the driving forces of technological innovation and high-quality products.

Steve Jobs actually openly cited Sony as his main inspiration for the design and build quality for Apple products in the early 1980s, and often had Sony equipment at the Apple offices to serve as inspiration to the engineers at Apple.

Microsoft, on the other hand, has ALWAYS been about spending as little as possible on making its software and hardware, and maximizing margins even if it meant a substandard product, as the could always just promise that the next version would fix this version's problems. Of course, at best all this did was lead to new problems and deficiencies in the next version, but you'd already bought into their ecosystem and didn't have a choice.

Yes, but the PS5 is both cheaper to manufacture AND is more efficient.

Either their engineers lacked creativity or there were too many arbitrary demands from the top for them to reach their performance target optimally (price\perf. ratio).

I think the 12tf number came from the top, so they had to stick to it. No way to find more creative ways to reach a performance target.

AMD went on a tour touting the power of RDNA2 and how the XSX/XsS had all its features. DF wouldn't STFU about it.

It turned out Sony was smart about only keeping what works or tweaking it to be more efficient and cost-effective. Smart.

MS paid AMD for exclusive RDNA2 marketing deal on consoles... that is all.

PS5 uses RDNA2 as core just like Series X.
But due the marketing deal only MS could talk about it... including AMD that could only quote Series X or says umbigos "next-gen consoles".

PS. I remember even today when I said that AMD told RDNA2 was coming to "next-generation consoles" in plural... he argued that it was due Series S and Series X :D :D :D

MS basically slapped together a custom motherboard for a gaming PC that would have a higher spec than they thought Sony would go for, which cost them way too much. PS5 has a straight-up, conventional slab motherboard, while Series X has a two-piece motherboard to fit the case shape, and that kind of thing costs a shitload to produce and assemble, as the tolerance for faults in production and assembly is much lower.

The costs and production pitfalls of multi-part motherboards were a large factor in Apple abandoning the cylindrical design of the Mac Pro, but MS apparently doesn't pay attention to the problems others have determined aren't worth solving, or are so arrogant that they think they won't be affected the same way.

As to the 12TF thing, that was probably just a case, much like the Bone X, of just picking the highest numbers AMD offered them and slapping that shit together with no additional work done. Bone X was more powerful than PS4 Pro, but it wasn't reflected in any way that justified the price of it.

And, as always, even stripped down to the Xbox OS version, Windows is bloated crap that pisses away more than a quarter of its runtime on useless system calls that don't accomplish any real work.

If the rumour about the new ps5 iteration launching at $400 is true it's Guna be even more crazy since it's only $50 more than they 'new' series S & you can buy yourself a detachable disk drive later on if you want to
