They’re experts on the matter, and it took them almost three years to figure it out?
Sounds more like someone had a falling out or isn't getting paid anymore. Xbox is honestly getting slammed this year by everyone and they deserve it.

Anybody that knows a bit about hardware GPU could had guessed that in early 2020.

Cerny took his job with PS4 and focused in efficiency trying to minimize all bottlenecks.

MS used the same copy job from Xbox One X (copy of PS4 design) and invested in raw power... Series X is just the PS4 design boasted to higher TFs with a weird memory bus setup (yeap MS is not good at copy... they had to fuck something).

The results is no surprise since the two console launched.

But Xbots believed it was the Tools.
Efficiency>Raw Power

Xbots know about that, they tried to use this argument with the xbone vs PS4. Obviously they were wrong to oversell their argument back then (DF sold Microsoft's argument as well).

So, while not wrong, an efficient architecture will only take you so far, and raw power won't go anywhere without that well balanced architecture.

AMD GPUs always have a big issues... big numbers (TFs included) but low efficiency.
nVidia always did the same or better with way lower numbers.

That reached a point that people started to say nVidia TFLOPS vs AMD TFLOPS when it a bullshit spin because AMD GPUs indeed have more RAW Power... but nVidia GPUs were way more efficient to use it own lower RAW Power.
The results was nVidia GPUs in most cases ahead AMD GPUs even with lower RAW Power.

The same can be said about PS5 vs Series X.

And I will say more in terms of efficiency Xbox One, PS4, PS4 Pro and Xbox One X (of course taking in account the RAW Power) where close to each other than what we see now with PS5 and Series X.

Xbox One and PS4 efficiency were very similar... so a lower RAW Power will only show how weak a machine is compared with the other.

To be fair I have the feeling the Series X is very non-efficient even compared with AMD RDNA2 GPUs of similar RAW Power.
It doesn't perform like a 12TFs GPUs that means it has more bottlenecks that most people believes.

While PS5 is the opposite... performs better than similar RDNA2 at the similar RAW Power.

I think in both hardware (awkward split memory setup) and software (that unified GDK) is a big harm for MS.

I don't think they meant power efficiency, they meant that the 32MB RDRAM (or whatever) was going to make the xbone more powerful than the PS4 because it was faster than its unified memory pool. That was because they would use something similar akin to sampler feedback to only charge the necessary ressources in there.

Obviously with visually complex games like Killzone:SF that used roughly 140MB for their frame buffer that logic jumped out of the window, even the simplest of 3D games ran better on the PS4.

But yes, for the following generation MS's approach went in the wrong direction, I think they started with the 12tf GPU as a basis and cut corners around it to keep that number in place within the monetary envelope (could be reduced caches, slower memory pool, etc. a lot of hidden stuff). But, they got their 12tf machine!

I don't think their tools are bad at all, maybe their OS is bloated, but I can't verify that.

Thinking aloud: there must be an angle to this. They didn't stop simping for Philnocchio, so I assume this is because the PS5 Pro is going to launch with way more TFs which will put the XSX's paper advantage to shame. Downplaying the importance now in the hopes that the pro release will have less impact.
