Does no one find it concerning that PS5 sales are struggling to keep up with the nearly 8 year old Nintendo Switch?

Will the Switch outsell the PS5 this holiday season?

It is the sole reason the shipment is behind what it should be lol
And you say it is no relevant?

Price is king for any product sell well.

Europe sales are lacking because Sony rise the price there instead to cut.
Well unfortunately the age of price cuts is over. Nintendo clearly can deal with it as seen with the Switch it's time for Sony to git gud too.

The discussion is PS5 vs Switch. Why are you editing your post to bring up PS4? lmao...

Price is not king, the Series S was $150 last year and that was the worst holiday season for Xbox ever.
Because price is the reason.
There is no way to talk about PS5 sales without talk about how it didn't have price cuts like PS4.
You completely miss context if you try to push these narratives.

Nintendo can deal or it is already cheap to begin with???
Switch price varies from $200 to $350.
The cheapest model is half of cheapest PS5 in US (outside it the difference is bigger) and the expensive model is $50 cheaper than cheapest PS5.

Do you think if Switch was $500 (€550 in Europe) it should be selling like it is?

Well both but Switch 2 will be more expensive and I'm sure it still won't be a problem.
That is what you wish or hope... nothing is set on stone.
Nintendo doesn't have a good track record with consoles after success too.
In fact they failed most of times with successors.

I will buy Switch 2 and hope Nintendo they are successful but Nintendo already proved more than one time they are hit or miss having no ideia why they were successful.

It's a fair question backed by facts, either answer the questions and add to the discussion or go away. Stop trolling please.
Relax with your passive-aggressive tone, thanks.

If you want to discuss things fair enough, but don't start dictating how people should fabricate their responses.

Their consoles more often than not fail since the N64.

N64: fail
GameCube: fail
Wii: success
Wii: U fail
Switch: success

Even the 3DS was a failure compared to the DS.

Man I made a huge mistake here.
I believed the we were talking about the last quarter shipment and used the 2.4m to compared with PS4 4.2m.
But the OP is using 4 months old data lol

Actually PS4 did 3.3m in same period when PS5 did 2.4m.

The last quarter shipment will be released on November 11.

Fixed the original post with correct data.

Lifetime? Not a chance. The way things are going, PS5 will tap out at ~ 105 - 110 million lifetime through EOY 2028, and that's assuming there aren't other price increases to come, that GTA6 is the "industry savior" as analysts want to frame it, and SIE doesn't do Day 1 for the big games to PC (Steam) prior to that.

Otherwise, and especially if all three things happen (in the case of GTA6, it'd mean the game underperforming by a decent margin, say 20%-30%), then lifetime PS5 sales could tap out at just 100-105 million. I mean look at it this way; sales are already tracking behind PS4 launch-aligned, they've been 2 million behind PS4 launch-aligned globally, and they've been pushing aggressive sales promos in Europe because that's one of the territories sales have softened more than expected.

I also don't think markets like China are going to be a massive boon to PS5 as some believe, because as long games like BMW are Day 1 on PC, a market whose gaming audience overwhelmingly favors PC, will just go PC for those games. Plus how many more BMWs are SIE expecting over the next four years?

The thing you're ignoring here, is that PS5 had a much faster start than PS4, so a lot of SIE's early FY projections (before revisions) assumed that momentum would stick around. Now yes, COVID and the pandemic, alongside chip shortages, happened, and those things affected SIE's ability to satisfy demand via supply.

But that's also around the time SIE started to self-sabotage their hardware demand with both aggressive cross-gen support (HFW, GT7, GOW Ragnarok) and an intensification of their Steam porting strategy to PC (Returnal, GOT, DS: Director's Cut etc.). The fact of the matter is this: as Xbox has seen a massive collapse in console sales globally, by all accounts most of those gains should have been going to PS5.

However, it'd appear a majority of the deserting Xbox customer base, have chosen to turn to PC instead, which would explain the increase in Steam growth specifically (and other things like PC"s market share growth in Japan) while PS5 has remained virtually stagnant with PS4 and is now trailing them behind by some 2 million globally. IMO, if SIE didn't go for the easy bait, and didn't self-sabotage vested interests in their console, PS5 would've been able to maintain the pent-up demand it had during lockdowns longer and would be at least slightly ahead of PS4 globally when launch-aligned. Especially, again, considering the fallout that's happened with Xbox this gen.

Also in terms of comparing PS5's LTD to Switch's, you are ignoring that Switch was VERY under-supplied in the first year or so. It had a somewhat similar issue in terms of low supply relative demand, that PS5 had in 2021 and most of 2022. Had Switch satisfied that demand earlier on, I feel LTD amounts would put it decently higher than where it's already at relative PS5, because Nintendo hasn't engaged in the sort of self-sabotaging strategies (or better to say, methods of implementation of the strategies) the way SIE has with PlayStation.
Oh yeah, I just meant this year... Or over the holidays. No chance for lifetime ..

Wait...if a £300 console is obviously outselling a £500 console because of price...

Then how will a £700 console outsell a £500 console...?

You really think PS5 can outsell the Switch? It would take Sony keeping this device on the market for 10 years plus getting it down to $199 for that to happen while never announcing the PS6 before 2030
I just meant over the next few months.

Not lifetime, Sony's strategy has sealed that possibility off.

Yeah, I can't believe people still tried to lie about supply constraints in 2023.
They aren't a lie, it's something that happened and we all saw all retailers showing that it was sold out and that once they received new units they got sold in a few hours.

It's next level mismanagement of the brand, feels like Sony has some kind of humiliation fetish this generation.
There's no mismanagement at Sony. This generation they are getting record revenue, profit or active userbase, and their first party games broke sales records with titles released in 2020, 2022, 2023 and 2024 and in recent years earned a lot of awards and GOTY nominations.

You tried to insinuate that the PS5s sales collapse is normal and that the Switch experienced the same thing, when the actual data shows the complete opposite. 21m drop to 15m is the same as 21m to 28m growth? Really? Why be disingenuous when we have all the data. Which is why I said it was a poor attempt at obfuscating the truth....
The sales says there's no PS5 sales collapse, it's only in your mind.

As shown in the graph, the yearly hardware sales of all consoles make a curve, so after their peak (which typically happens somewhere between their 2nd and 5th fiscal year) year, their yearly sales decline. PS5 had its peak on the previous fiscal year, so it's normal to see a decline in the current and future years because this is how console sales cycle work.

Some consoles have their sales peak year a bit before or a bit later, somewhere around their 2nd to 5th fiscal year period. Everybody including Nintendo thought Switch was going to peak in the year where they sold 21M, but Switch got benefited by the unexpected Covid bump and instead of selling under 21M it sold 28M that FY. So Switch's peak FY ended being the 5th, not the 4th as everyone expected. Once passed the peak, like any other console its yearly sales kept decreasing.

Regarding the estimate for PS5's current FY, the 15M estimate is out of your ass. Sony estimated 18M.

It's a fair question backed by facts, either answer the questions and add to the discussion or go away. Stop trolling please.
There is absolutely no fact pointing that PS is done, you are the one trolling here. All the facts point to the opposite: this generation they are having record revenue, profit, active userbase or money spent per user in their history and almost every year their break their fastest selling first party game sales. And on top of that every year they are increasing their market share against MS and Nintendo.

Do you think PS5 Pro will outsell PS5?

Bold claims indeed.

PS5 Pro will be at max 20% of all PS5 sales this holiday.
Said that these are still at max 20% more sales to PS5 this holiday and combined with Switch dropping sales I believe PS5 will indeed sell more this holiday than Switch.

PS5 Pro will be at launch like 20% max of all PS5 sales this holiday.
PS5pro will not hit initial, or revised, targets.
It's not that the PS5PRO is a bad console, it's because, like the PS4, the PS5 is too good for its own good.

If Sony drop the price of PS5 people will buy that over the PS5pro. If they don't drop the price, they lose sales to the switch.

Rock and a hard place.

I asked you a question, you can't respond with another question. Stop being so emotional, either partake in the discussion like an adult or go away.

Asked me?

You made a claim. Back it up.

Don’t just throw things out of your backside and expect posters not to question it.

Again what are the parallels between Xbox and Playstation. Striking according to you.

Enlighten us.

Passive aggressive? Ironic, your first and only response to the thread was passive aggressive ffs. Look in the mirror before projecting your childish behavior onto others. It’s simple, if you don’t care then don’t comment. Saying that is not dictating anyone, that’s basic etiquette.

Calling a post doomer isn’t passive aggressive, but me asking them directly to contribute or leave is passive aggressive?

What a useless and truly inept excuse of a mod. Either be fair or be quiet.
