Great game, can't wait to get back to it. Money well spent.

Despite how disappointing this gen feels so far I can't deny that we had many certified banger. Top heavy gen.

Thinking of buying elden ring , the trailers for it look epic but I hate how difficult souls games are
It ain't even that hard, it's an open world game where you are given freedom to move on to something else if you get stuck.

The start of the radagon fight is up there with FF 7 moments for me, I purposefully died a couple of times just to watch the scene again. Elden Ring does have some pacing and bloat issues but goddamn it has soo many moments of sheer brilliance. The Radahn fight with its atmosphere was so poetic in its beauty

That trailer was so Berserk. Elden Ring has a bit of Berserk vibes all over it to begin with.

The same reason frozen wilds & burning shores wouldn't qualify
I agree but burning shores or frozen wilds are comparable to ashes of ariandel or the old hunters, Shadow of the erdtree genuinely looks like it is as big as some AAA games. I am biased and FF7 rebirth should win GOTY but if its a lean year I don't see any reason why an expansion like shadow of the erdtree should not win GOTY

Expansions can have more content and gameplay system level changes than boxed sequels. See Hellblade 2 for more information…. Or how Zelda Rehash of the kingdom did nothing to improve its combat.

If the expansion knocks it out of the park I have zero issues with anyone saying it’s their game of the year.

What are people seeing too much of in this DLC, hasn't the main game had enough recycled content?

Zelda's combat is good enough, they don't need to change anything

I guess? With the same overworld and identical imited combat options per weapon type 5 years later was a major letdown. The physics and sandbox manipulation is not of interest to me tbh.

I don't know, I find the Elden Ring system very placebo, most of the weapons are useless and you would only choose one for aesthetics. And well, the focus of the new Zeldas is exploration, not combat

They both did a fantastic job with exploration. To chase scenery or a thing and not Ubisoft style marked locations on a map.

From OoT to Twilight Princess the combat in 3d Zelda did get deeper for that single combat style. Altho the problem with those is that difficulty wasn’t a challenge. Botw took enough from the souls like to amp the difficulty but Link himself is limited in combat options for a particular weapon. Two directional control animations and a charge attack. Fuse didn’t address that.

I was hoping for more. Then again, I consider Elden Ring my personal sequel to BotW as far as the fantasy genre is concerned.

I don't think Elden Ring did a good job in the open world, the map is practically a hub of caves, almost all the relevant content in the game is in a cave or in a closed and isolated place. What Elden Ring does well and I think justifies a lot of the praise is the combat and customization, but it's a shame it sacrificed the semi-open game design of Fromsoftare's previous games. But speaking of Zelda, I think that, like the next GoW, it will need a change to remain relevant

I also don't understand why Fromsoft fans have decided to use Ubisoft as their antithesis, but in my opinion, what From did in Elden Ring isn't that different from what Ubisoft does in its games, the difference being that From decided to fill the game with bosses instead of pointless side quests
