“These shows are really ****ing expensive,” one insider says, referring to both Summer Game Fest and The Game Awards. According to pricing details shared with me by multiple marketing professionals who requested anonymity, running a trailer during Summer Game Fest’s main show this year cost $250,000 for 1 minute, $350,000 for 1.5 minutes, $450,000 for 2 minutes, and $550,000 for 2.5 minutes. They also say last year’s edition of The Game Awards featured the same pricing tiers.

Sony paying this instead of doing their own big show... FML.
Sony is doing their own show later but many non os gamers will be watching summer gamefest. U aren't going t find a new audience just putting on a show for only the ppl who are alrdt in your eco system and alrdy support your brand.

It's too much money for the host to then tell you not to watch the event with high expectations or that it will basically be a regular show.
Yeah he shouldn't have made any comments. Let ppl expect what thy will.

Nah, it's always best to set expectations for viewers. This is why PlayStation/Capcom/Nintendo/X always say "Hey this will last X minutes and will mostly feature YZ. If you don't do that, people will get mad they didn't get their toys.
To be fair they'll always get mad GTA6 isn't there or something, but at least the more reasonable ones will not get so mad that they'll skip the next one.

Makes you wonder why Sony didnt announce Lego on State of play and saved 1 million dollars

Because to a company like Sony a million dollars is nothing. Huge companies always have "wasteful" spending.
I'm sure that some guy at marketing made the decision based on how many people they expected to watch the State of Play compared to the Summer Game Fest and came to the conclusion that since its PC + PS and it's not a PS showcase, it'll get more eyes over there and is worth the cost.

Developers paying to be in that game show is beyond stupid.

Eh, if a developer thinks they've got a broadly appealing multiplat game it's still probably the best place to show it especially if you think you can stand out from the other titles.

Considering all the official channels and streams plus all the co-streamed and commentaries means many millions of views, so it's a good deal.

First it wouldn't cost $1M to Sony and second this has a bigger and different audience.

Nope, if Geoff is underhyping something you can be sure it's going to be weak as fuck and he is doing this to avoid backlash.
OH I know why he is doing it but hard dysagree, he said sane shit last year. Bro enthusiasts have watched these from the beginning we know what to expect. As a matter of fact it's bs bcus the last one was fairly decent with one or two gd reveals.

In my experience they all sucked and were extremely long and were filled with fillers.

This event is no E3.

For Sony it definitely makes sense, ALOT of people watch these events.

& same goes for developers like Capcom who pit in a trailer at State of play.

For Sony, that isnt a lot of money to begin with, but what is important for PlayStation as a brand is that they show presence at every major even.

Though this amount is hefty for Indie devs & publishers.
