The PS4 crossed 7 million in month 53, 8 million in month 61, and 9 million in month 72. The PS4 has sold 9.68 million units to date. The PS5 is currently 3.56 million units behind the lifetime sales of the PS4 in Japan.
PlayStation 3 total sales in Japan: 10,469,971
PS5 was always leading to be fair but the last few weeks (4-5 weeks) PS4 took the lead up to ~250k.
There is no way PS4 is 1-1.5m in favor to PS4 when PS4 was behind PS5 until few weeks ago.

With that said these are definitely better numbers than I was expecting but there is a core loyal base for PlayStation everywhere. More interested in seeing where these numbers settle and if it will be able to keep pace with the PS4 Pro
Launch aligned? PS5 was most of time ahead PS4 but the max difference was like ~500-600k in PS5 favor...

Ok thanks, so pretty close in favor of PS4 (around 150K-200K). Maybe with some time limited discount and a few big games more like MH Wilds, DQXII and GTA6 could be passed.

This generation has been quite satisfying, every doomer take has been wrong thus far

Id say the PS brand has taken some hits this gen with the fanbase and some of the games. Some lows for sure
But there profits and revenue is probably still top and plenty of successes. Alot of the dooming is overboard but some is warranted for future worry

Anything with a fanbase has taken a giant hit in the past 4 years. Fandoms across the board have become insufferable echo chambers.

PlayStation is facing a big issue for the future of the brand... and the need to start to look into that right now.
I and you are old farts that won't buy PlayStation and their games forever.
To have a band like that you need to get the interest of new consumers... younger gamers.... not the old farts.
The PS6 and mostly like PS7 survive depend of they getting younger gamers on the ecosystem now.
And that is why they are doing a lot of things different and even experiments right now.
They probably have data of how many younger and old active users their have... and it is probably becoming worrisome for them.
They need to have a balance of youngers and older to keep the brand alive.
But they are probably getting a imbalance with way more olders than youngers.
Of course no old fart like when a brand tries to do things to youngers.
But the older as a consumers only last a small period compared with the younger.
A lot of people, I won't go in to the details on their background, but they're not well, don't realize that the internet is a negative space at the moment.
Influencers, vloggers, what ever you want to call them have realized that negativity drives engagement a lot more than positivity. The result is negative sentiment rules online discourse even if what's happening in reality is quite different.
You see on twitter random acts of violence filled across your feed and if you look into most of them, they're extremely old incidents, but the algorithm brings them to the forefront.
Most of these doomers don't know how to run a business and they take personal slights against them as bad business. "I'll show Sony for betraying me, I won't buy their products and neither will anyone else).
Sony rightfully has determined there isn't much overlap in consumers between console and PC. So there isn't much danger in putting their games on PC and reducing the profit margin ratio. The only ones upset about this are fanboys who feel like this diminishing the value of their plastic box.
They were desperate to see their worldview affirmed and have been pointing to the idea that the PS5 would undersell the PS4... that simply is not likely at this point. Maybe if Nintendo put out a version of the Swtich 2 that was as powerful as the base PS5... but that's not going to happen.
Couldn't have said it better. I have been online in these spaces for a loooooong time and have realized this as the internet becomes more Algorithm based. Negativity wins engagement and engagement is all these platforms want from us, no matter how negative or angry it makes you.
For the whole SBI/DEI folks, they don't even realize their insecurity is being preyed on by ALL media sources, not necessarily a new thing, but more effective than ever since everyone has instant access to everything now (phones). Even in incredibly niche spaces like SIE fandom, a lot of the discussion that sticks is how PC gaming is the boogeyman ready to make your consoles worthless, or even how the PS5 Pro is an utter flop... but reality simply does not reflect that. Internet is in a very fascinating time rn, now designed to get your attention at all costs.
