70K left on store shelves? Maybe they should do a buy a PS5 get a copy of ff7 rebirth with it? The PS5 being the equivalent of being 600 dollars in Japan isnt doing any favors. It selling 40k a week is actually incredible all things considered.

Porting rebirth to other platforms would either not be possible or not help its performance in Japan - it's the sad reality of the market.
It wouldnt change much to the physical sales, which Im guessing thats what these charts are?

Xbox has no presence in Japan. Switch cant play it and PC has no physical game either.

The problem in Japan is that they only buy Nintendo now and it has to be on a portable console otherwise it doesn't sell very well, you only have to look at the top 25 games of all time to realise that this is an audience that's turned more towards portable consoles.

Top 25 Japan All Time

1.[NSW] Animal Crossing: New Horizons - 11.20m
2.[GB] Pokémon Red/Green - 8.22m
3.[NSW] Pokemon Scarlet/Violet - 8.04m
4.[NSW] Mario Kart 8 Dekuxe 7.95m
5.[NSW] Super Smash Bros Ultimate - 7.48m
6.[GB] Pokémon Gold/Silver 7.17m
7.[NSW] Splatoon 3 - 6.99m
8.[NES] Super Mario Bros. - 6.81m
9.[NDS] New Super Mario Bros. - 6.49m
10.[NSW] Pokémon Sword/Shield - 6.00m
11.[3DS] Animal Crossing: New Leaf - 5.95
12.[NDS] Pokémon Diamond/Pearl - 5.85m
13.[NDS] Pokémon Black/White - 5.54m
14.[GBA] Pokémon Ruby/Saphire - 5.40m
15.[NDS] Animal Crossing: Wild World - 5.35m
16.[PSP] Monster Hunter Freedom 3 - 5.30m
17.[NSW] Splatoon 2 - 5.26m
18.[NDS] Brain Age 2 - 5.10m
19.[NSW] Minecraft - 4.70m
20.[Wii] New Super Mario Bros. Wii - 4.67m
21.[NSW] Monster Hunter Rise 4.60m
22.[3DS] Pokémon X/Y - 4.56m
23.[NDS] Dragon Quest IX - 4.40m
24.[PSP] Monster Hunter Freedom Unite - 4.25m
25.[GB] Tetris - 4.24m

Only 2 games on home console. Japan it has become a very special market.

And it's not just FF, even other games from third-party publishers (whether Square, Capcom, Namco ...) are doing their big sales in the West now.
100% This.

They are mostly portable buyers. They let the Wii U rot, as they did with Gamecube. Even Saturn sold more than N64 in Japan. I think PS home consoles sell better than Nintendo Home consoles in general except Wii.

They mostly care about 1.) Portable Nintendo games 2.)Portable None Nintendo games and 3.) Then Nintendo home console games, mostly in that order along with Dragon Quest. Mario Nes being the exception.

Portable Kingdom and there is no changing that.

If PS wants to increase its software sales in Japan, PSP3 that plays the PS5 games. Thats the only way to be in the charts more often and with bigger numbers. It t wont sell Animal Crossing, Pokemon or Mario Kart numbers, but it would be better

It's interesting also that most of the games in the chart I wouldn't consider cinematic or very story heavy games. They're also generally quite passive and closer to Gameboy and DS games than home console games

It really highlights how people in Japan are engaging with games now. More as a passive hobby that they do while commuting to and from work or generally just using public transport.

I would like to see pc figures for Japan though because I think PlayStation could be losing some ground to a more direct competitor in that area.

a new psp isn’t going to do shit in japan if it doesn’t play nintendo games

And im not sure what level of delusion people have to be in to still think sony or any other hardware manufacturer has the resources to support two platforms anymore.

We barely get new PS5 games at this point, let’s have the studios also make handheld versions of their games. Then lets charge 600-700 dollars for it so they don’t lose an incredible aobut of money on it

Thts what they say they are more of a hop on, hop off quickly type of gamer and on the go so makes sense their tastes are showing.

Not looking good for Ff7. Not even in top 10 for psn’s most popular games in the US.

Im shocked this might do worse (it is) than FF16 and the anecdotal absence of the game from anyone playing on my friends lists was initially the most telling. The majority of my friendslist were playing FF16 week 1. I have only one playing ff7.

Sorry, ethomaz absolutely nailed it. Final Fantasy is on the decline game over game and it’s dire.

Yeah I havent even seen it in stores or advertised anywhere, so it must still be sold out.

I think the major problem is also you need a PS5 to use it and its not a totally portable machine as it needs online.
This kind of stuff stops it from being a super mainstream machine, used on trains, planes and out in the open lol

Possibly but it Def isn't having an issue with sales just availability.

Rebirth will be a slow burn, it'll have legs.
of course, it is amazing game. people will recommend it to other.

but it could be not enough for these corpos, they want the money fast. they could kill sales as sony did with Horizon FW

nah, there will still be:
  • The INTERGRADE version for PS5 Pro with upgrade available for base game owners
  • The Epic Game Store Exclusive PC version for the double dip for PC owners
  • The Steam Version a year after the EGS one for the triple dip, for PC owners who don't want to forget they have the game because they rarely check their EGS list of games and they want to play it on their Steam Deck or with remote play
With the moneyhats SE has been given by Sony and Epic, those are enough to offset lower sales.
