Feel old and out of place with the kids... but I've never played Fornite.

It’s using Nanite now for geometry, but with the old geometry models. Expecting those to be upgraded over time for marked increase in complexity.

Well, that's interesting. I'll have to keep a lookout for it. Just curious how much they can increase geometric density in the models while adhering to the 'Fortnite' art style.

Usually the most common way this happens is details that are just textures become actual polygons, primitive shapes gain detailed contours, that sort of thing. I t can be done subtly enough that you won't really notice without a close, CLOSE look when done well.

There is definitely room for improvement while maintaining the aesthetic. The flat ground textures and ice regions very much stand out now as too flat.

At the end of the day more capable tech becomes a canvas for whatever the artists goals are. Eg. Animated films look cartoony while utilising top end rendering techniques.
