Looks well made but not going to lie, there is a distinctly sour taste with this title knowing what it could or should have been.

They put out a game like that less than 12 months ago. You can't put out games like that every year lol.

This is developed by a smaller team inside Tango, they're probably busy at work with their next project internally.

Anyone know if this game's on PC Game Pass? I'm hearing it's only on Xbox Game Pass which is...extremely odd, considering it's a 1P game and there should be no licensing issues preventing it from being on PC Game Pass outside of it being a calculated business decision.

But I'm asking in case anyone's tried it via that way yet.

It's only $30 on steam, if you're hesitant just wait til key sites have it for $10. Are you really in a rush to play this day 1?

yep, i would rather have them devoting their time to it than anything else.
I don't think you're going to see a TEW3 as it is.

Remember, Ghostwire started off as TEW3, but somewhere in early development they internally came to a decision that it wasn't worth making a sequel so they changed it into an original IP.

Cross posting some 4K screens from the Xbox version from another user on Era.

Looks clean as fuck.

Apparently it runs very good on Steam deck as well.

Excellent state at launch, a rare commodity these days, especially for a surprise announcement.

I'm just saying it's weird from a business POV that a 1P game MS fully owns is "free" in Game Pass for Xbox but not for PC Game Pass, the platform of which they also fully own. I know Bethesda/Zenimax don't operate under XGS but wouldn't the publishing decisions including Game Pass fall under Microsoft Gaming?

Just wondering what the thinking was behind that. That's all.

on steam, 2h you can play for free.

Still trying to figure out why this isn't in PC Game Pass, but it's in Xbox Game Pass. Almost feels like an underhanded admission they're confident people on PC are more likely to buy it than on Xbox (which might in fact be true).

A rather damning sentiment to silently confirm, if looking at it from that POV.

It's a simple but very effective visual style, cel shading in general tends to be easy to look "clean" compared to other visual styles. Though this game gives me more "pure" cel-shaded vibes like if it were a Sega cel-shaded game (JSR, JSRF) though, which is somewhat rare these days.

Interested to see if they get a chance to grow the IP in the future.

Where it’s at.

There could be existing contracts with Steam for some Bethesda games. We don't know when this game was green-lit. Also, PC Game Pass is just run in a weird way.

Fair enough. It's probably been in development for at least 2-3 years I'd suppose, but the acquisition was only officiated right before Summer 2021.

Is this really Japanese? It looks like an American Cartoon Network show.

I see the director is American, have they started to replace/lay-off the Japanese staff?

Looks rough to be honest. Like an indie Devil May Cry with a cartoony, cost-effect (i.e budget) artstyle.

And, why is it launching on both the epic games store and steam, day 1? Has MS already given up on "exclusivity", at the very least between Xbox and the windows store?

lots of red flags here...

It is coming to game pass PC as well, not sure why you assumed it won't.

Will be live in a few hours if not already.

The only red flag here is that you spent time writing all that :ROFLMAO:

Who gives the fuck about any of all that? If the game is good, then just play it lol. That doesn't change anything for anybody except for MS. I personally have no desire to play this game because its not my type of a game, but I am glad it exists. Whether its good or bad I cannot say because I haven't played it.

well it certainly calls into question how a hostile MS takeover can hurt Japanese developers, and Tango Gameworks is now the prime case study.

An Americanized, American-directed and produced cartoon indie, that launches at $30, in a stealth gamepass drop?

From the former EVIL WITHIN DEVS?! Why aren't they given the budget to IMPROVE their craft?

Of course no physical copy in sight either! Unbelievable!

Xbox is cancer to Japanse developers...

This post is cancer to the medium of gaming 😅

The head of the studio himself has wanted to branch off from becoming a one-note studio that only makes one kind of game for a while.

He is getting his wish.

Tango Gameworks founder Shinji Mikami has said he wants the Ghostwire Tokyo developer to work on smaller and non-horror games in the future.

“I hope to eventually change the image that Tango Gameworks currently has,” Mikami explained in the interview. “At the moment, we are still seen as a studio that specialises only in survival horror.

“Of course, it’s nice to have fans think of us as a studio with a reputation for developing survival horror games. But we also want to be viewed as a studio that can create a wider variety of games. We will be releasing more and more new games in the future, starting with Ghostwire: Tokyo, so please give us your support.”

It's not a good look. Japan and Asia already hate xbox enough as it is, but diminishing Mikami's directorial duties and passing them off to an American is a bad look.

It seems Tango is already underway for 'Westernization".

What's next, a Football simulation/bro-shooter hybrid?

I guess Ghostwire was the last of the Japanese soul the studio had left... Sad to see.

That actually doesn't mean much. Japanese people are very much about respecting seniority and authority, if he went out and said "microsoft wants to work on smaller games now" it would be unfathomable and seen as disgraceful. If this quote had come out before the acquisition maybe you'd have a point.
