They can do that because in the US Sony still has some competition from Xbox. In Europe and South America they can price gouge as much as they want due to the extreme (football club like) levels of fanboyism there is for Playstation (makes icon era look tame by comparison)

You can see in other threads here how they suggest increasing prices further instead of expanding to other platforms in a controlled manner to reach more users.

Icon eras end game of a PS2 like monopoly will bite them in the ass. You'll get a more expensive and lazier Playstation as a result.

Just like it happened to Intel during the Bulldozer/Piledriver/Excavator era of AMD. Or the no Steam no buy crowd. Thankfully steam keeps improving even if theres little competition.

I love how this guy assumes PlayStation’s dominance in Europe is do to fanboyism and not because Sony made a significantly better product than the competition that consumers loved.

You accused an entire market of fanboy loyalty when the only fanboy energy is coming from you.

Sony worked and earned their position in Europe. As they did in every market.

You are the definition of a PC mustard race. You are master of nothing but bullishit and shoving Gabe’s Steam cock down your throats.

They dont even have games that are good for handhelds, platformers and jrpgs are handheld staples, no one will play CoD or their "precious" Halo & Gears on a handheld
Millions play Fortnite on a terrible touchscreen every day

I'm sure an FPS on a device with actually good controls won't be too crazy

Once the system launches, the differences won't be as theoretical and these builds will largely die down. This is also where the value proposition for the Pro is going to win because these arguments won't carry water.

The idea that the Pro is overpriced is debunked by PC gaming costs. Of course, you can always try to pivot to things like PC having modding or free online, but there are also advantages to console gaming. Everyone is aware of those differences. The biggest change here is that the Pro gets even closer to high end rigs than the PS5 base.

Sony also knows that if this works, they can release a pro machine every generation and people won't be surprised by pricing anymore.

PS6 will also launch for a minimum of 600 dollars, which would still be cheaper (inflation adjusted) than the PS1 when it launched.

People don't care about "value propositions".
If they did, they would have picked Xbox over PS/PC.

Most people just want accessible devices like Consoles or Mobiles, that are comfortable.

Many complain about Apple for being Premium-Priced and having bad "value"!
They are one of the biggest Companies on Earth.

I'm not sure you're entirely understanding what a "value proposition" is.

If you did you will understand why they didn't pick an Xbox over PS/PC.

IGN is obsessed with the PS5 Pro. How many articles about the $700 price tag are needed? Certainly not 100. Even the Switch 2 articles are turned into PS5 Pro bashing garbage.

And don’t get me started on the whole “no games” crap social media is shoving into people's throats.

It is good PR.
All of them talk about Playstation, and advertise it
