The worst deal in gaming.

MS came up with paid online, paywall for basic features and was an early instigator of microtransactions.

Sony came up with the idea of monthly games (kept it pretty good all along even when far ahead), game library subscription service, with the PS+ Collection and never charged for online F2P (both while being market leader).

OH WAIT, I just had my morning coffee: you either pay 10 dollars to play online or you are forced to go straight for the 17 dollar sub to play online and have access to the games? thats over 200 a year.

I believe they axed the PS Plus PS5 collection. Did they replace it with something similar since?
They 'replaced' it basically with bigger collections: PS Plus Extra and Premium for both PS4 and PS5. The collection was meant to be a welcome bonus for the early PS5 users.

The MS collection replaces Games with Gold, which will be removed with this change (but you will continue having the games you got in the past). PS Plus will continue having the monthly games.

Also partner with Apple TV+ or HBO to have a streaming service available as part of the sub by included discount or promotion. Especially as they plan to triple down on game IP film and tv adaptations.
The were testing on an European country -I think it was Poland- Sony's own movie and tv show streaming service.

If they ever include some non-gaming service in PS Plus I think it would be this one if ends being released worldwide, in addition to Crunchyroll.

What is the point of having $1 dollar off between different tiers? they might as well simplify it and have just one. I feel the same about PS Plus Extra and Premium, there is no reason to "save" one dollar and miss on classic games and trials. We should have Essential and Premium in my opinion, and is much clearer for new people.
It's a common marketing trick to make that more expensive option more appealing. Most people who can afford it often thinks that the perks added are a steal for the price difference so they get the more expensive options.

Premium tier for PS Plus is a joke.
It gives you around 400 games from PS1, PS2, PS3, PSP or Vita, some of them remastered or remade, plus the cloud gaming and the game trials on top of what Extra includes.

For a 20 bucks/year difference versus extra (getting the yearly it's a 1.67 bucks/month difference). I think it's worth it.

Subs services are pretty old. I worked for a company that used to sell one back in 2001. On PC, it was pure garbage, but it existed.

It was called gamesmania, not sure when the plug was pulled, but given when it appeared it must've been one of the first of its kind.

I don't remember any digital gaming library subscription before PS Now. Even better for Sony if they didn't invent it, since I don't like it, I just listed it before some Xbot tried to give MS credit for it as something positive.

In fact, I like the original PSNow model a lot more of renting games one by one. This is how I played consoles growing up, like movie rentals, I like this model a lot actually for everything, pay only for what you actually want to play. The Netflix model sucks.

Second tier does't even include online? This is clearly designed to just inflate numbers and other than copying PS+ Collection they only made it worse. Now we'll at least finally get to know if they had 30m+ Gold subscribers like Xbots liked to pretend.

PC being $9.99 without needing to pay for online while Console tier is $10.99 whit no online included and no monthly games just show how much Xbox fans are suckers.
Standard gamepass on console has never included online it's how they get people to pay more for ultimate (aswell as it including ea play but don't imaging that many people being bothered about that)

This is the price hike that got them burnt in a PR shitstorm but this time with a name change and with some crumbs to get a better reception. Make no mistake it's all about driving that middle finger deep.

Watch the botting closely.

Games with Gold had terrible software offerings. Plus Essential actually tends to have one good pick out of the three drops a month.

When online paywalls are mandatory for you the perks seem nice but those paywalls shouldn’t exist.

Plus needs a rework too. I expect some changes now to follow this in some form. Premium tier for PS Plus is a joke.

Remove online paywalls and cut price by rolling PS plus premium features into extra. Also partner with Apple TV+ or HBO to have a streaming service available as part of the sub by included discount or promotion. Especially as they plan to triple down on game IP film and tv adaptations.
They need to fix the PS3 BC downloadability problem, and merge all BC/digital tiers of games to be both Streamable and downloadable. And purchasable or subscription-based. Get rid of the need for that distinction of features, pair down tiers. PS+ and and PS+Extra is enough.

I do need to brush up on each tier as it stands atm to say much more though

I think that games streaming is a pretty expensive proposition, it makes sense to put that feature in the top tier.

The part I don't think makes sense is the timed demo thing, that should be free altogether.

They should add an online gaming only tier, no games, cloud storage and what not. Make it cheaper, for the kids or those 1million ps owners that only play CoD.

I don't know enough about online/co-op gameplay systems, or whom is responsible for what between game developer, publisher or console holder. But hopefully if I armchair CEO a little, someone can come alone and explain why this part will work, or that part won't etc.

I don't think online play/co-op play should be behind a paywall. Nor should, say, having to have xbl gold back in the day before you could use the Netflix media app or play a f2p online game.

Turn the PS+ middle/top tier into one, so it's an enthusiastic/nostalgia thing. I can either buy this game digitally from PStore one at a time, or this sub service will let me temporarily access (dl or stream for all games, looking at you, PS3 library) whatever games they have up there. That allows me, along with PS5+PS4 deluxe installations (say if I want to have extra save slots but retain all game savedata to one profile), to manage ssd space by choosing to download this or stream that. Depending on genre type, one might be preferable to the other. My often used example, MK9 streamed like dog shit back on the old PSNow, back then I think that was only way to play it on a modern machine. Trying to recall, but I believe I have it over on XB's BC now for playing on XBSX, but that's not where I want it to be. It's like content that didn't move over from PSNow, alongside purchased content that didn't move over from PS3 digital content, or it didn't come to this country's digital storefront/sub service/BC program, so we have to go account hopping. If the IP contracts existed at one point, the PStore backend's been done and tech is gradually moving forward, the emulators have been redone, where's the hiccup? Well, we're waiting? Open the floodgates. BC/digital side rant over...

So, options, don't gatekeep features like say remoteplay or shareplay behind the paywall, but the further embracing of options. Download or stream, purchase or sub. PS play-pool, or PS+PC play-pool for co-op/online as a user option feature, I guess?

Side story for PS3's Starhawk. I rented this for a weekend from BlockBuster, and literally ran around an empty world. I got PS3 late and I seemed to have missed this game's time. It may have been during the PS3 network outage, I don't remember the particulars really. But even though I was in an empty world and didn't get it, that online world still existed. That's better than something like UC2/UC3/TLOU1's PS3 MP's being depreciated/turned off. Can't server rental be a PS+Extra perk?

Another factor too is some games reach a point where the server cost isn't developer friendly anymore, so the game goes f2p, and I assume peer2peer and as long as you can get a few buds sorted, you can fill a matchmaking lobby or spawn together in the same area of the overworld and fast travel to a specific mission, like Division. I know I was playing ShadowRun on 360 and PC for ages past when it was new and "alive". I've gone way off tangent and confused myself lol.

Of course but having a "lower tier" that includes online just looks stupid. It's typical MS branding and product design, where you can sort of understand why something is the way it is, but it's still an incredibly stupid decision.

Also no more discounts on GP so ... these are the prices. Isn't the highest tier of Netflix like 20 bucks? And they have plenty of churn. Movies and TV are also much more mainstream and "easier" to consume than games. You know GP will get up there, and it's already 17. I just don't see how this succeeds in big numbers. I plan on getting rid of my XSX fairly shortly, but I just don't see a world where I pay 120 a year for online access. It's not even the affordability, that's not the issue. I just don't see the value. If you want online for PS it's 60 a year. I don't think GP has the yearly discount anymore, correct?
