8" 1080p IPS low end Android tablet: $200? It's actually quite hard to find 8" FullHD models right now. It's either 8" HD or 10" FHD even for the lower end ones. The Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 was probably a good fit but it's been discontinued for a while.

Dual Sense: $60

If all one wants is to play PS5 games remotely, the Portal is still cheaper, it's more and better integrated, and it'll be hassle-free and much easier to use.
OTOH it's not good for anything else.

In the end, if Sony allows for wireless headsets that use USB audio, then the product isn't that expensive and it's a good alternative for anyone looking to use the remote play feature. I'm sure it'll also go down in price eventually.
And this is without even thinking about software support for Wii U -like gameplay features like inventory management through the touchscreen, looking at a game's map with pinch-zoom, etc.

Does screen size prevent the game from showing text? Then no, you have no argument.
Small screen size prevents text from being readable, therefore defeating the text's existence altogether.
Sure, you can pretend on the internet all you want about being able to read half-milimeter characters just fine and try to make a big point about it, but at that point no one cares.

I didn't pretend anything. The games can be played on android just fine, that's a fact. If people struggle to read text (I probably would since I must use reading glasses) then that's a different issue.

It upsets me that - on assumption this will remote play better than via phone and gamesir v2 with all the phone popups - I'll be getting the portal for that reason despite wishing it was a real Portable, without any strings attached.

You can read book with 8' inches tablet, you can watch movies, so there's that.

Personally it is just an accessory, I think people are too into it as an actual handheld. Sony and Nintendo doesn't have enough resources to support 2 platforms, so they both have different directions.

it’s a dual sense with a screen. Should have called it DualSense Vision or some shit to avoid the trolling.

I thought it should be more cheaper...
I mean it just a screen for remote play with a very simple processor.
It has no stand alone capiblities.
This is late replying; this is late threading, lol, but this is an interesting one to me.

This cloud or streaming handheld stuff never really seems to save much money, even though the processing is offloaded.

Wii U’s rumored GamePad price and a two player one never becoming available, the Logitech G Plus from last year, and now this. I don’t know what it is, but it seems by the time you build a large screen handheld, even if the insides are elsewhere, you’ve basically ratcheted quite far up the expense ladder.

I’m actually glad and surprised it’s $200

I’m pretty positive about this in general. A good, huge 8” portable screen, proper Dual Sense controls… I find Remote Play actually quite a good feature, and this is well positioned to be an awesome way to play it.

My only complaint is forgoing Bluetooth entirely for headphones, and creating a big proprietary, pain in the ass. Absolutely Sony’s version will be better and more gaming suited, but let me cheap out if I don’t have a pair, yeah?

Bluetooth lag is completely unacceptable for gaming. People would hook up and think something is broken. It’s essentially a DualSense with a screen, and like with that you plug in your headset.

It’s the right decision from a mass market perspective.

Bluetooth 5.3 LE Audio has latency control and can actually provide 20-40ms latency.
Audeze, the company Sony bought after co-developing the Pulse Elite, has had a headset with LE Audio in the market for 9 months.
Creative just introduced their LE Audio headsets with a bunch more in the way. Within the next year or two, pretty much every headset maker will be releasing models with the new bluetooth standard features.

Sony's move with going proprietary standard for these devices is asinine.

What’s the penetration of this latest protocol? Would it lead to consumer confusion on which works properly and which doesn’t? Do they need to upgrade their $300 Bose to make it work as intended? These are the questions for a mass market product.

Infinite percent more when compared to zero, which is Sony's current market penetration of their custom protocol.

"Only works on LE Audio headsets"

Sony recently launched a console with expandable M.2 SSD that didn't support the earlier PCIe 3.0 generation, despite it having the exact same size and slot dimensions. In fact, it even refused to work with slower PCIe 4.0 drives.

The SSD makes sense, the sequential W/R speed of PS5 SSD is at least 5000 MB/s.

I’m not an audiophile, to set the ground understanding of me. Like if you ask me to get in the weeds with headsets that are hundreds of dollars, and tell the difference, I have no clue. Consider me a sound casual, lol.

But I often use Bluetooth headphones for Switch gaming, and have quite enjoyed that feature. Sound quality seems fine. I haven’t sensed any sound lag, and if there is some, it hasn’t been significant enough to trip my senses with an obvious delay.

I would just like the option to play the Portal the same way. I’ve no doubt that Sony’s deal is better — those same Sony headphones of mine kick into a proprietary mode if I use them on my Sony 4K Blu-Ray player, and it sounds fantastic. I’ll likely end up buying them anyway.

If you try a fast pace games like e.g. call of duty, the lag becomes a gameplay issue. You shoot your gun and the bullet sound doesn’t match the action. Your footsteps are delayed as if someone is behind you. Games that rely on sound for gameplay all of a sudden lose their key aspect.

Slower methodical games generally are a non issue, just the same as visual and input latency is of lesser importance.

That might be it, yeah. I’m generally playing a lot of retro games and single player titles, and my online gaming is on PS5, corded.
