They are hypocritical about what they spare and censor. TLOU2 has a lot of graphics content that should have been censored but they spare it.

There should have been a filter to turn off every sex scene in video games, TLOU2 should at least has one considering how many accessibility options they have.

Sony really need to do more. Final Fantasy is a start... and a slim model will help, I'm sure but they need a few pieces of software that really push people to buy in a big way.

They need to stop the PC ports.

Tbh, Street Fighter 6, RE4, FF16 month after month is as good as it gonna get for now for Japan. Games like Dragon Quest, Monster Hunter would do well too but thats on 3rd Party.
Slim and Price drop would help though like you said, and some smaller titles.

I guess Sony could invest to quicken those big releases like Dragon Quest and Monster Hunter but thats a hard one. 3rd party arent gonna want to release big hit after big hit so fast, otherwise they will not have much to release later on in the year or next year etc.

Whether no1 likes it or not, Portable versions of games like SF6, RE4, Harry Potter, FF16 would increase PS Software sales in Japan.
Street Fighter 6 runs pretty well on Steamdeck

I mean its not like the steamdeck is flying off shelves (as far as we know) and you can play a lot of current/cros-gen games on it.

SF6, Diablo, FF, Star Wars, Hogwarts, Resident Evil, are all pretty much default playstation exclusives in Japan. We just need to be honest at this point and look at the overall software trends in japan, its not just portable or the sony platform.

The only games that stay on the charts week after week (to months) are Nintendo first party titles and Minecraft. 3rd party stuff on nintendo have the same legs as playstation games. Even some first party nintendo stuff like Bayonetta 3 or SMTV don’t do that well on the charts.

A lot of Japanese consumers are just trending more towards more casual, easy pick up and play type games. Even zelda has trended more into being more minecraft like for that very reason.

After a while you can’t really blame console manufacturers and publishers for the changing taste of one region.

It's not just about hentai games or even sexual content, they've even gone as far as censoring blood and gore on games already rated for Mature. If you're ok with being treated like a baby, then you're part of the problem.

Little stuff like this is objectively ridiculous and enough to make people leave your platform or buy games on competing platforms. (Game is Alice Gears Aegis)

I agree. But I dont know if those Nintendo games wouldnt have the long legs they do if they werent portable.

Did they with Wii U? Maybe, I cant remember. Its not like Wii u, Gamecube and N64 were huge successes in Japan. Wii was just a super commercial hit and only sold a few million more than PS3 despite the huge price difference.
But yes Nintendo games are the most popular in Japan.

Outside of Mario on the Nes. The best selling home console games of all time in Japan were Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest titles. The rest are all portables. Nintendo, Pokemon and Monster Hunter I believe

You can blame the manufacturers when they're working against the region. But you're right to an extent, there's only so much Sony can do but they're not.

Exactly. Game that can be picked up and play anywhere will do well in Japan and everywhere else in the world.

Yeah, its a two sided issue, which nintendo solves both of, its more casual games that you can play in chunks and its the portable nature of them. Its trending towards being a more mobile friendly market like a lot of eastern countries. Thats why Genshin and Diablo immortal are doing really well overseas.

Nintendo putting out another home console would have been a disaster worse than what we’re seeing with the ps5 and Series X/S.

I think the Project Q is the best compromise, it forces people to buy the ps5 and its software but they can play it anywhere. Both the ps5 and the project q just need to be reasonably priced in teh future for that to happen

That along with sony having successful F2P software, which we still won’t be able to gauge the success of cause we only have access to physical charts

Wasnt there a rumour Project Q can run without the PS5 too with cloud? So people can just buy the Project Q and then buy games for it online. No PS5 needed if they dont want?

Jim Ryan said they would b e making their cloud ambitions very clear in the near future, and they added ps5 games to cloud streaming so this might be part of it, yeah.

I’ve been playing smaller games like Octopath and pixel remaster more and more on my ipad so im actually pretty interested in a more quick and easy dedicated remote play/streaming device.

If it runs smoothly then Ill be interested. Overall Im just not big on portable gaming anymore. My switch is 99% docked. I played it once in portable mode and felt like I was missing out on the big screen lol

lol looks fine to me, it's more the ones crying about censorship are the babies when it's literally a few pixels extra on a screen. and we've seen nudity and blood in non anime games on playstation, so whatever is going on in japan is there on doing as it doesn't affect anything else.
