Yep, Factions was my most anticipated game from all of Sony first party as a TLOU fan. The rumors of it basically being cancelled last year made me move to PC as my primary platform.
Jason’s rumours got a reply from Naughty dog staff member saying its false information.

Kotaku’s “source” was probably jason too. It Sounds like nonsense tbh

Should of just made the standard multiplayer like the first game and expanded it more. Not no gaas nonsense.

TLOU multiplayer was so damn creative and fun to play.

Are the servers even online anymore?

Id rather have an expanded multiplayer with a single player story experience (PVE) over just PVP. Gaas or not, it sounded good

Didn’t we already know that Factions development was paused? Schreier already reported it. The layoffs report is weird since it’s been reported that Naughty Dog was expanding.
Jason reporting doesnt make it correct, he is probably the source for this as he use to work at Kotaku.
Who now works for Bloomsberg. A company known amogst people as being a anti PS, Pro MS website.…

Some of you guys take tweets from nobodies or rumours way to seriously. Like the one where that tweet says FF7 Remake part 2 was coming to Gamepass withint 2 months of launch. Some you guys ran with it like it was official news or something. They play you like a fiddle

Not saying there isnt trouble in production, who knows. But this isnt official news

Lol it's funny how you people have moved on to calling everything fake news. Even though Jason leaked TLOU remake before it came out and now this. He has legit sources in ND. Jim Ryan wasted years on turning TLOU into a failed GAAS game and have nothing to show for it. Sad to see this fanbase become just as delusional as Xbots when it comes to facing reality.

'Shelved' implies canceled. The game isn't canceled. It's on pause.

The headline suggests the game is canceled. Should be edited.
Shelved and on hold are the same thing. And yes, it usually does end up being cancelation in the end.

Sad for the layoffs but such is life, especially in third party QA studios.

Naughty Dog’s Online game wasn’t Jim Ryan’s idea you idiot. It was Naughty Dog themselves who decided to make it it’s own big thing. You can blame Jim Ryan for some things, but this isn’t one of them.

Bullshit. Jim and Hulst both had to sign off on any games. Naughty Dog doesn't have free reign to do whatever fuck they want to.

And knowing the live service pivot, it's equally if not more likely that Jimbo himself decided to decouple the factions project from TLOU II

We knew the game was delayed because needed some changes and improvements. If big, pretty likely meant an unscheduled long period of decision making, planning, design and prototyping for all the stuff to be changed, meaning that the job of some related people in these area to be changed maybe had to stop what they were doing because won't going to be needed, and instead have to wait for new orders during some time, while they can spend working in other game areas or in other games.

I assume this is what they mean by "putting the project on ice".

This normally that doesn't cause firings unless they really messed it up, during development it's usual and very frequent to have changes and iterate stuff.

Also, the big companies every year make personal performance analysis of their workers, to decide salary raises, promotions or in some cases, fire people. So these days many people get an extra and a few get fired. In this case, they are over 400 people supposedly fired "at least 25 people" according to "sources", a bit higher than usual for their size. Probably a few of them related to have caused the delay, others pretty likely simply were fired due to bad performance or for having caused issues.

Quite often the fired people, when part of the normal yearly appraisals I mentioned, are replaced by other hired people.

Another possibility is that a big portion of the fired people were junior testers who -due to the delay- won't be needed in many months, and since the other ND projects may be in earlier stages or already have their own testers they don't have a place there. In that case they would be replaced when needed, not now.

I think the game isn't on hold -and obviously lesss cancelled-, but instead in a normal stage of an important change, something common in gamedev.

Factions 2 should've stayed part of the main game as a multiplayer mode. It was a mistake to try and make a full blown game out of it. It's not appealing to most of the audience, I never even touched the Factions mode in the 1st game.

Jim Ryan created this mess. Can we finally say he has been fired for good, not just retired? He is the ultimate boss of the company, I don‘t care if the stupid PC ports and GAAS have been lit before him, the fact that he embraced and pushed and these policies even further is telling enough. Here hoping the next CEO can disregard all the bullshits under Jim Ryan. The repercussion will not reveal itself until later this gen if the first party output remains atrocious while GAAS games keep coming out and get poor review. Similar to how Xbox 360 still sold even when the focus shifted to Kinect (albeit with less momentum). If the next CEO is not Japanese, we fans may be doomed and need to embrace Playstation’s dark age.

Still no news about factions for 3 years

Still no updates on new game project

More layoff

Time for Neil Druckman to go and bring Amy Henig back

I think Bruce Straley was probably the important element there, he was probably massively underrated / underappreciated.

He definitely had a positive influence on Druckmans writing for the first game.

There is literally negative chance that Jim Ryan was fired. Y'all need to lay off the crack pipe.

Yes, he was fired....but it was because of my petition on Change.org.

I was always way ahead of Jim, I could see what he was up to.

That part was both speculative and sarcastic. Nevertheless, It is a good thing he is stepping down.

I like the idea that he was fired because that may tell us the top of Sony do not like the direction the brand is heading towards

That would be very reassuring to me, personally.

I need a few key changes and I have outlined them clearly before many times. (cancel PC ports, a strong single player focused acquisition, more single player exclusives, a focus on 3-4 GAAS rather than 10-12, better communication, better showcases and possibly a PSX event and a few other smaller things)
