One Bethesda employee caused significant controversy in the work Slack when he posted an eight paragraph rant against abortion. "I'm dismayed over the consistent crying out for the 'right' to murder one's own kin," he wrote. "Human rights aren't being violated in overturning Roe vs. Wade, they're being restored for those who cannot speak for themselves." The message included eleven quotes from the Bible. Kotaku was able to obtain screenshots of this post from the company-wide Slack channel. A Bethesda director eventually removed the post and locked the thread, and asked employees to keep politics and religion out of the "water cooler" channel.

Microsoft, which acquired Bethesda last year, had already announced that it would provide travel expense assistance to employees who wish to get an abortion. However, a former ZeniMax employee who worked at the company after the acquisition told Kotaku that Microsoft and ZeniMax handled benefits completely separately, and therefore, those Microsoft policies don't apply to staff at ZeniMax. "When it became clear that Microsoft was not absorbing us into their umbrella, a lot of people quit," they said.

Jim Ryan was right.

Again ... back to the media aspect of how they are spinning this. Is it "employees pressuring the company" or was it one mad dude ranting where he shouldn't? I find it so weird when one or two people will do something and the "news" tries to spin it as some kind of common thing among a demographic. Similar to the "Sony fans sending dick pics to SSM" baloney.

And yes, of course Jim Ryan was right. You should show up to work to do your work. You need so much focus to produce great products and services, no one should even feel like there is time to be engaging in any kind of activism.

Don't understand why a corporate entity that makes computer entertainment software has to say anything about abortion. It factually has NOTHING to do with them, or the services they provide, actually.

Not everyone has to appease the toxic sensibilities of a few deranged leftwingers who think every single product they consume has to come from a parent company that supports their political views.

Is Bethesda located in one of the States where abortion is still legal? If so, these employees have nothing to worry about. If not, take it up with the SCOTUS. The ruling has been passed and that's all there is to it.

Imagine waiting for your boss to tell you if it's okay to get an abortion. Is Phil going to pay for it too 🤡

What's the obsession with abortion and video games? Even Sony delayed Ragnarok according to Jason 🙄

i don't think its an obsession, its probably just not the opportune time to market the game. The US is still the biggest gaming market, so they have to abide by current events here. They need to do things when they have everyones attention.

to disenfranchise, harass, and make conservative, pro-life gamers feel unwelcome.

It's a tried and true bully tactic.

funny how it always seems to come from toxic individuals and sites like Jason Schrier, Kotaku, and the rest of the political activists disguised as video game websites.

its cheaper to send them for an abortion, tickets and all than to give them maternity leave :cautious:

It doesn't seem to affect anything else. It's the 4th of July weekend in USA, tons of celebrations everywhere. A new Minions movie also came out for all the children that didn't get aborted and they are expecting a huge box-office.

Only Sony cancelled while the hype was at an all-time high. Next week people are on vacation they won't care about reading the news.

you have toxic manbabies in this industry who will literally throw a hissy-fit if something fun or entertaining happens while they're nursing their wounds and sucking their thumbs over their political losses. 🤣

Sony can't share the date because a few butthurt activists in the U.S are currently in mourning over local politics. No fun allowed right now, fellas.

Absolutely insane behaviour.

This is why Politics is not allowed on this site. We are talking about a publisher. And Ill be honest this thread is bordering in my eyes to being closed.
