Don't look now but Lego Horizon is now on the first page on the PS Store best sellers. Currently ranked 10th in games 40 dollars or more...

Advertising definitely seems to be heavier for this game and that seems to be pushing up sales. As usual I think there is a rush to judgement here.

Does that mean this game is going to be a smash hit? Obviously it never was going to be. But a profitable and strategic release? Sure potentially. You can probably use this company again in the future.
It's already out of the top 200 on your beloved Steam. Weird of you to use PSN ranking to salvage the catastrophic sales when it was all about growing the IP on other platforms.

It's number 219 and the weekend is not over. Litterally 2 days after release 😬😬😬

Sold less than 3k 😬

What have the other Lego games performed on Steam? We need some context.
Why release it on PC if lego sales are always bad? It's just creating bad publicity for no return at all.

Nope, LEGO regularly retires sets, it's the reason why some use LEGO as an investment.
All I am saying is that tallneck doesnt sell unlike the star wars, harry potter or zelda sets. I bet the lego transformers sets sell more than the tallneck even with actual transformer figures on the market from hasbro

Who expected it to sell like them?

It sold well and was retired. Like Lego does usually.

Lego sets retiring soon. Includes Star Wars, Nintendo, Sega, Disney, LOTR, Harry Potter sets and many others.

It must have sold good enough to warrant additional partnership and from first-hand experience, it was a pretty good build, too.

This game on the other hand, might put a dent in this partnership.

How is steam "beloved" by me?

"ALL" about growing IP on other platforms?

I think you fundamentally misunderstand, which isn't surprising coming from you.

The first goal of any game is to get back its investment development cost + marketing. Releasing on multiple platforms makes that ratio much easier. The cost to port games to PC and Switch in this case is minimal.

Somehow you guys seem convinced that Sony thought this was going to outperform all Lego games before it. Sony is fully aware of how popular Horizon is compared to say Star Wars or Harry Potter. They would have gone through all the metrics of past Lego games when making this deal with them.

Benchmarking, you want the game to sell about as well as the median Lego game and you budget accordingly.

Sony also has long term plans around Horizon, which probably still include getting the tv show up and running either with netflix still or someone else. Games like these are longer term investments than a lot of you are willing to understand.

Case in point with Until Dawn and the movie coming out in April. If the movie is even remotely successful, it will probably provide a boost for the game, which might have a 2nd, 3rd, and possibly even 4th life (theatrical release, streaming release, spooky season).

Update; Lego Horizon is now ranked 19th on the US PS Store page and remains 10th among games 40 dollars or more.

And here I thought the first goal of any game, from a gamers perspectives, would be to be fun to play.

Guess corporate shills enjoy different things.

I'm talking from the perspective of the company making it.

What's fun for one gamer might not be fun for another. I have no interest in Lego Horizon for example. You're a weird dude. Have to remind myself not to engage with you.

Of course you are, I've never seen you talk from another perspective.

More rankings updated…

UK PSN #9
DE PSN #9

ES, PT and FR are out of first page (24).
This thread is about Steam CCU. Are you trying to deflect or do damage control?

This thread is about the Steam CCU, stop deflecting to PSN rankings. PS players need to bail them out as usual.

Lego Horizon is number 269 on Steam and it will be out of the top 300 in the first weekend. They will never recoup the cost of the PC port. All it did is create bad news and turn Sony into a laughingstock.

How much do you think a PC port of an in development game costs?

I think a lot of you guys don't know how games are actually developed.

And let's close with people obsessed with CCUs for offline games. You think it represents sales, but it doesn't. I get that's the only thing you can hang your hat on, but it's a terrible metric and no one takes you seriously when you use it.

Edit: You could just as easily look at the games poor sales position on the steam best selling chart and your argument would have way more merit.

The game is number 269 on Steam and the CCU is low. There's a direct relationship between the two. Why are you and Yurinka keep repeating CCU doesn't matter as if we're dumb? Low CCU = low sales no matter what genre (SP, multi, sim). Every game starts at zero the first week so the CCU does 100% matter.

It's selling awful, out of the TOP 300 by the first weekend. Look at that if CCU hurts your soul.

The industry will keep reporting the CCU, it's the accepted metric and Sony gave it to them on a silver platter. Get used to it.

Someone needs to learn the difference between causation and correlation.

A game can sell well over time but never have high CCUs. Not everyone, especially on PC plays games at launch. Many wait for sales. Since there isn't a social element of single player games/offline games, there isn't really a need to play it when everyone else is playing.

Not saying it doesn't matter at all, but it's not the metric you think it is. Day 1 sales aren't even the end all be all on PC.

Like I said, your argument would have had more merit if you focused on the sales position rather than CCU.

The industry? LOL... no... you mean a handful of fanboys on forums. It's the only number you get from Steam, so people have latched on to thinking it means sales.

Here's an article for you to read on the subject, though I'm confident you're not much of a reader.
