I wonder how ABK employees feel like reading these news
They should feel unworried, this is a company with over 200,000 employees who has added over 40,000 positions over the last two years... 1,000 positions being liquidated is a drop in the bucket.

Unfortunately it needs to happen in order to stabalize the markets. They are in free-fall this entire year and it's tanking people's 401ks, IRAs, stocks, and mutual funds. The rapid inflation has to come down so that the Fed can back off of the interest rate hikes. This can only happen if the shareholders feel "secure" in investing in the company's now very low valuations. Expense vs. Profits will dictate stock prices. Companies have no choice but to cut expenses by laying off workers in order to show an increase in profits every quarter.

I guess they could raise prices for consumers instead. I’d rather they affect my personal wallet than strangers who probably made a lot of money and will get a good parachute.

Not an option as the increase in price won't come close to the salary of an employee.

Microsoft is hemmorhaging money from its failed gaming division, no surprise they eventually decided to take action
Yep, just think how much money was wasted on Halo Infinite.

And then you look at the games in development hell - Everwild, Perfect Dark, probably Fab!e too.

Companies in the middle of acquisitions should not be allowed to lay off staff. There, I said it.
Layoffs and acquisitions are not mutually exclusive. However, if MS are cutting in Xbox in a significant way in the near future it's probably not wise for them to spend billions on Activision (who will probably do their own layoffs anyway).

I hope not, but this may be the beginning of a really bad turn for three whole industry.

Just a hint for MS, Kramer should be laid off, even if you don't pay him.

Well, that's just the beginning. GamePass collapsing from 25M to 18M is pretty steep.
I missed that, when did it happen?

Not surprised at all... I don't know anyone who kept the service active for a serious amount of time, unless they are an influencer and got it for free in exchange for saying that they love it.

I don’t care what you think of MS as a company, this is sad news for those affected and real people get hurt by this kinda stuff.
As someone who has been laid off before, with hundreds of colleagues, I can attest that life goes on without your corporate overlords.

They're intelligent people, they will find something to do with their lives.

Only executives and directors get good parachutes. Most employees of any company that's undergoing layoffs get fuck all.
