Only executives and directors get good parachutes. Most employees of any company that's undergoing layoffs get fuck all.
Obviously not everyone gets the golden parachute, but after a good period of service you can easily get over a year of salary (I got the equivalent of 1 year of salary after 12 years of employment when it happened to me).

The thing is that people should stop seeing themselves as belonging to a company when they get a job, this is pure slave mentality.

Anyway, those people who work at MS probably have 6 figures salaries, they should be able to manage a transition period.

Imagine hearing that the company that is buying the company where you are currently employed is laying workers off?

A lot of places only do one week's pay for every year of service rather than one month.

I guess they could raise prices for consumers instead. I’d rather they affect my personal wallet than strangers who probably made a lot of money and will get a good parachute.

dont know homie,as much a xbots love to brag about how much money ms have in the bank this argument its laughable

I'm on the opposite side. I'm seeking financial freedom. Also when in a company I think you should always have a plan B/second income if possible, which they usually try so hard to not let you have by crushing you to pieces for endless hours of work. It's a one sided love with these whore corporates.

Depends on the country and policies. Not all people that work at Microsoft get 6 figure salaries lol.

And I agree about the job thing, but at the same time, these layoffs are not needed at the moment, it's pure corporate greed and jumping on the bandwagon.

Never seen Xbox users bragging about Microsoft money in the bank. Then again my life doesn’t revolve around these toys and I don’t scour Twitter for warrior fodder, you’re clearly guilty on both counts homie.

Believe me, they are. And not only Xbox "users" but people who actually report about news and shit.

Good management is trying to see what's coming. If stuff is selling less then projects that are no brainers to stop are stopped right away. I bet there are people busy building lists of "fat" or unnecessary corporate activities.

Saving money is not that hard, even if you are not that rich, overspending and what not is easy tho. Nobody should put themselves in a situation where they are out on the street if they loose their job.

I was able to go almost two years between the last two jobs, most of it after unemployment. The house was still paid, the kids were fed and we even had "vacations". The only part of the budget that got cut was my savings. I did not make that much money until I started working again after :p (with experience people will refuse you because they are worried that you will be bored).

This is one of the main point they (many xbots) like to bring up, as if MS was going to give them stuff to spite Sony or something.

That is really good... they said they will lay off around 1% of employees but ended laying off only 1000 employees.
It was better than what they estimated.

Dude, this is so wrong on so many levels. Rents in some places outpace even median salaries. Get back to the real world for a moment.

You were. Some, a lot, are not. I could also pull that off, but I was lucky to land a very well paid job. I've been on the opposite spectrum.

Kinda of hilarious claiming to not know about the “microsoft war chest” or ‘money in the bank’ rhetoric when just today windowscentral publishes an article like this

Which is basically a not so thinly veiled threat that if sony gets the deal block microsoft will use their 70 billion dollars to buy up the rest of the industry around Sony and put them out of business lol
