Nextorage has released two new 8TB SSDs that mat give even the best SSDs a run for their money. The pair of PCIe 4.0 drives combine high density with lightning-fast performance

The NE1N8TB hails from Nextorage's G series and arrives in a standard M.2 2280 form factor without a heatsink. The SSD caters to desktop and laptop users. Meanwhile, the NEM-PA8TB, which belongs to the NEM-PA series, has an aluminum heatsink coated with a radioactive black aluminate and is more geared toward PlayStation 5 owners (8TB is the ceiling for what Sony allows in M.2 SSDs in the PS5). You can use the NEM-PA8TB with a regular desktop; however, you must ensure enough clearance space since you cannot disassemble the heatsink.

Regardless of the presentation, both drives leverage an eight-channel controller with 3D TLC NAND at 1,200 MT/s. Nextorage doesn't reveal the model of the controller on the product website, but the SSDs are likely using the Phison E18 controller. It's the most obvious choice since Nextorage was a joint venture between Sony subsidiary Sony Storage Media Solutions Corporation (SMSS) and Phison before the latter bought all the shares from Sony in 2022. Although the NE1N8TB and NEM-PA8TB are backward compatible with older interfaces, you should install the SSDs on a PCIe 4.0 interface for maximum performance.

@Sircaw didn't you tell me you wanted to spend part of your bikini bottom pention fund on an SSD? 👀🤔

850 bucks, rather spend 800 dollars on that pc @Nhomnhom was building.
Just upgraded to a RTX 4060 to get an extra edge at 1080p and PCVR for little over $50. This is a cool thing about PC, once you get the basic setup going you can make incremental upgrades as you see fit.

On the same AM4 motherboard so far:
RX 480 -> RX 5500 -> RX 6600 -> RTX 4060.
R5 1600 -> R5 5600

$850 for a PC build would go a long way.

I would get a larger HDD if I were to choose. A 16 TB HDD for instance. After all, only AAA games from 7th generation (modded Bethesda games) and up benefit the most from SSDs. For retro games I can hoard them on a good old HDD.

You are already outdated... using a AM4 mobo was a terrible decision.

Anyway Nextorage is a great Japan brand with Sony's hands on them.

My drives from them are excellent.

How much were those?
Prices aren't good right now.
So id wait.

I got a 4TB with heatsink from Nextorage for $199.

It's not and hasn't been close to that price since.

I am looking to add another 4TB from them or WD to my PC but been waiting on a similar price.
If/when I get one I'll let you know.

U could save 800 dollars and just delete and re download games when you need to. You don't need to play 12 games at once just play them one at a time.

When I was a kid I would only have 1 or 2 games a year and had to make those last.

I got a 2 TB and never once I had to delete a game to manage storage when I also have a 2 TB external. Anything above 2 is mostly unnecessary, 8 TB is just ridiculous.

There's even people who complain about getting up and having to swap discs all the time which I don't understand.

I honestly wonder how many games these people play at once, probably the gamepass crowd who knows

Must be some newly developed memory stacking tech, that's almost 4x as expensive as the 4GB options on the market. I expect the price to go down as the tech matures.

Terrible decision? You have no idea what you are taking about.

People on this forum are just extremelly ignorant about PC, its tiresome to discuss anything PC related here.
