They really don't, Octopath 1 is best just skipped (it was a bad game to play) and, like they said, takes place in a different world with different characters.
Octopath Traveler 2 isn't on more platforms due to an internal decision Square Enix made "after observing the sales of other titles"

I'm barely ever on there, sometimes I get bored and do a run of tweets.... like a bombing run and then log off.
Is it really bad? I read wonderful things about it.
The thing is I like to see how the studio envolved from a game to another and playing the second one first breaks that or spoil it.
Probably I will have a bettter impression of the first game wihtout play the second one.... while if I play the second when I finally play the first will find it very flawed.
Let's enjoy the games at it own time.
I found the battle system tedious and some of the character specialties obnoxious, in addition to the story complaints everyone else had.

Even if there were no exclusives involved, no Japanese games sell well enough on Xbox for it to be worth the opportunity costs involved in porting to it.
To be fair, it’s pretty clear their Xbox releases met the expectations anyone reasonable had for them.
I just listened to an Xbox fanatic podcast and they were discussing square enix being Microsoft’s next acquisition to help their sales.
Ar this point these zealots just want MS to use these acquisitions as a way to hurt Playstation fans and punish Sony for taking what they believe is rightfully Xbox's.
It's also funny how they talk about how much they think Square Enix sucks and how much they've been downplaying FFXVI yet they want MS to buy them strictly for spite.

Look, when games are selling a massive amount less on 1 platform, you don't really need to beg some publisher to skip the platform, in fact it starts to make very little sense to make any deals if they already know the game will not move much units.
So....did Sony pay for FFXVI or something to not go to XB? Maybe, but its more likely they are paying for that deal fully knowing that Square likely had no plans for an XB version and for all we know this has more to do with getting it first on PS5 before PC or something.
I mean, why would anyone pay for the what...18% it MIGHT sell? They are likely paying for that timed deal regarding PC knowing Square internally wasn't putting it on XB regardless of Sony paying for some timed deal. So this is one of the many times where a game isn't coming to XB based on the actual sales of those past titles.
Cause how do you explain Octopath 2? Nintendo and Sony all teamed up to make sure it goes to them and PC or something? lol
Yeah. There’s zero consideration for how it would be good for the company just how it would be good for Microsoft.
Japanese games don’t sell on Xbox, not even Capcom ones. It’s time to deal with this simple fact.
Final Fantasy goes to Xbox we get FFXIII and FFXV. FFXIV skips Xbox.
Final Fantasy becomes PlayStation exclusive again we get FFVIIR and FFXVI.

I'm seeing some real entitlement on Twitter. Why do people think Xbox deserves to have these games released on the platform? It's failed every test thrown at it, even having mainline Final Fantasy titles at the peak of its (Xbox's) popularity. The norm is Xbox not having Square Enix games. Remember that.
