Tbh I see console getting cheaper w more focus on ai & cloud maybe a hybrid of such you can keep high performance w cheap price. PS should focus less on power & more there actual PS studios first party output that has been awful & they have yet to acknowledged it, relying on 3rd party is not smart PS doesn’t have the ip like Nintendo or even now Xbox nor does PS have the output of Nintendo & in the future Xbox (unless they remain incompetent)

They didn't grow it with their 300$ consoles either (whatever the series S was sold for).
They thought they could grow by having cheap console. It’s not just a cheap console but also tons & tons of exclusive games. As I continue to say just look at Nintendo & copy & watch the profits & growth come w no diminishment

Microsoft, if the X/S series sold very well or at least well enough, would surely have released a mid-gen model at 700 dollars like Sony.

Just to highlight but they did launch a midgen refresh its just they are so incompetent that it completely misses the mark, first they already launch their midgen start of the gen, then the refresh brooklin is the Xbox Series X tb2 version for 600 dollars.

Richard from DF:
Microsoft told us this back when we saw the Series X for the first time, that the Series X is their mid-gen refresh. They just decided to do it ahead of time, I guess you could say. The Series S is what they consider, like, their standard machine, and then Series X is like, that's getting ahead of the cart there, and that's what you might get from a mid-gen console."

It's true, they trapped themselves with their X and S series by releasing them at the same time.

And you belive them, that the X is suppose to be the midgen refresh?

And you belive them, that the X is suppose to be the midgen refresh?

1. They named their series X console after their previous midgen refresh one X.

We all couldn't believe they would be that incompetent.

2. During interviews xbox tell us, the series x is our midgen refresh.

Still difficult to believe it because that would mean series s is their base console...

3. We have leaks during the ftc of their refresh consoles named brooklin/ellenwood.

Just leaks, right?

4. They release their midgen upgrade. apparently its just glitters sprinkled over the console. 2tb and with a price tag of 600 dollars.

And you're asking me what I believe?

So far, Xbox is shrinking the market.
It is not even a joke, but grim reality, at this point.

Imagine being a customer who was dedicated on Xbox or even Gamepass, to be so massively disappointed, that it might causes general apathy.

The only thing that Xbox achieved was creating a sort of 2-class gamer community, where all the cheap people filter themselves by identifying as Gamepass-Customers and/or Series S owners, while even the Series X owners are displeased with how much that 2-SKU concept dragged down the platform.

If i had Hundreds of games on Xbox, i would be so royally pissed, that i'd quit (console) gaming entirely, and never touch anything gaming-related from Xbox/MS again!

There is zero trust in this brand/company, as the drop in sales clearly proves!

They have a history of incompetence, by the time they announced the 1st series console that had been the case for many many years already.
Still difficult to believe it because that would mean series s is their base console...
They only started promoting the Series S right before its release, the Series X was revealed first (12TF blah blan monster... most TF console everer, VRS, VRR, LGBTQ+-2S, etc.)

Series X was the product, Series S was supposed to be there in case people were price conscious.

Here is a timeline in case you forgot, they started teasing the Series X back in 2019, the Series S was only revealed in September 2020, I don't think there was much of it in the showcase events until the actual release.

He's not wrong, though. The PS5 Pro is a flop. There is a ceiling on the amount of money most people are willing to invest into a game console and I'd say once you get north ~$600, you've reached it.
How is it a flop when it’s slightly outpacing PS4 Pro launch numbers? The PS4 Pro was considered a success. The PS5 Pro is not meant to be a mainstream mass seller. There’s a reason why there are no tv ads for it.

The fact that it can sell the same or more than the PS4 Pro, at DOUBLE the price, is making it pretty successful alone.

Also, the PS4 Pro was only 13% of total PS4s sold, even when it was only $100 more as the Slim.
Many people just go with the cheapest option.

Series S is like 75% of Series Consoles too...

Rather early to chant tales of success for hardware that released 2 weeks ago, considering:

1 - Online and retail availability has been high since day one.

2 - Scalpers who artificially boosted early sales numbers are now selling their stock at a loss, because interest in the console was clearly below their expectations.

I've been seeing anecdotal comments from retail employees in the UK and EU saying the PS5 Pro is gathering dust on their shelves, by the way.
