What exactly are you doubting here?
If Sony put out the number of games that Valve does, people would bring pitchforks. There is absolutely no argument as to who produces more games... It's not even close. It's probably greater than 10:1.
Sony won't make its own launcher and leave Steam because shareholders will tank the company's stock price. Sony is on PC in the first place because these fuckers demanded growth no matter what. My last hope is that whoever is Playstation's next CEO will be smart enough to pull away from PC entirely and take the temporary hit to the stock price so that he can build a stronger platform in the long run.
Running their own launcher is exactly how you guarantee revenue and profit. You're blind to it, but Sony engaging on PC creates a stronger PlayStation.
Sony's PS4 strategy worked out great, it's also entirely unsustainable.
Helldivers 2 is evidence that Sony's strategy is the correct one. As we've said for the longest time, it's going to turn out to be Sony's most profitable game, and probably by far. It would be even more profitable if they weren't giving 20 percent of the revenue to Valve.
Sony's GaaS strategy doesn't appeal to all gamers. It's not supposed to, but ignoring GaaS isn't a long term strategy when the largest games on both console and PC are GaaS games.
The difference between Sony and another publishers many of whom also have their own launcher and individual storefront is that Sony makes more games/better games than most of these publishers.
You look at Microsoft and they bought Mojang and Minecraft. What else do they have? What else are they making?
Epic has Fortnite and they partner to have Genshin Impact. They also have Rocket League.
EA has EA FC and Apex Legends.
Riot has League of Legends and Valorant.
Valve has CS and DOTA.
You can't have a GaaS strategy without PC and it's pretty dumb to have a PC strategy that relies on Steam. Almost no one has done that.
Your hope is that Sony leaves PC and leaves GaaS, but there is just no future in that. Younger plays are almost entirely focused on GaaS games. The more expensive games get to make, the smaller profit Sony is going to get with these titles that we all love. The less profit, the fewer of these type of games they can warrant making.
If you love sony single player games, you should absolutely embrace them diversifying as it is the only thing that can keep them involved in the future.
Right off the bat Sony has had success with Helldivers 2. This doesn't guarantee success with any of their other GaaS games, but it does show that Sony's quality commitment to games is shining through in their GaaS strategy. They already have Destiny by way of investment.
Next up are Concord, Fairgame$, and Marathon.
