Sackboy: A Big Adventure is a Sony 1st party game. It doesn't matter who owns the studio. The game is a 1st party game. The IP is a 1st party IP.

It's sometimes getting used to make it clear "1st party IP/game made by external 3rd party studios". But at the end of the day it's 1st party.
It's normally 1st or 3rd party. This has been made clear many times already by devs or journalists. Yes, you can use 2nd party game/IP. But in reality, it's 1st party.
By definition second party games are also first party games.

2nd party games are the first party games -meaning, they are published by the platform holder- not developed by internal studios of the platform holder, but instead by a third party studio (meaning, a studio not owned by the platform holder).

This is what the industry has been using since the early '80s, even if some forum users, journalists or a community manager don't know it.

  • First party game: published by the platform holder
  • Second party game: published by the platform holder but developed by (I mean, having the lead studio role in case of AAA games where multiple studios develop a game) a 3rd party studio
  • Third party game: not published by the platform holder

  • First party company/publisher/studio/team: owned by the platform holder
  • 2nd party company/publisher/studio/team: 3rd party team leading the development of a 2nd party game
  • 3rd party company/publisher/studio/team: not owned by the platform holder

Or... they're simply 1st party games.

Where it’s at.
More news in this saga. It seems like Sony hired some people that left Deviation and they are working on something in a secret studio at Playstation under Jason Blundell 🤔

👀

Smart move to bring over the best and brightest from a failed partnership. Sony knows who at Deviation is worth poaching, so this just makes them stronger.

If it is a new studio. Sony should not announce it until they have a game to show. Announcing a studio without showing what they’re working on, which is what Sony did with Deviation, Haven, and Firewalk is lame.
