PlayStation won the platform wars, and they absolutely deserve all of it

the last 10 years they've been the ones investing constantly in great AAA games, games that are Game of The Year contenders, constantly delivering high quality games, if PlayStation ends up having a monopoly in the high end console market, it'll be deserved, cause they care about console players, they're the ones creating innovation like PSSR, 3D Audio, the Dualsense controller and VR, we know we can expect a lot of innovation with PS6, its controller, its features and its games
PlayStation-Backward-Compatibility.jpg

they've been fighting hard to make PlayStation the best place to play, even tho they're expanding to PC, Mobile and Cloud, they don't make their console players feel like shit all the time, the hardware is still the priority and core focus of the company

their first party lineup has been top of the top, they invest 200/300M dollars in multiple singleplayer games like no other company in this industry

whatever happens in the next 10 years in this industry, we can safely say, PlayStation is the console and in the future with their expansions to PC and Mobile, platform to play games

Nintendo is still hanging around and PlayStation releases their games on PC now. They didn't win anything, they just beat Xbox, or better yet, Xbox KOd itself by not getting rid of Phil Spencer 10 years ago.

If anything this should serve as a cautionary tale of how bad leadership can ruin an entire business.

PlayStation internal games output has been pretty lacking this gen, they need to do a lot better in the second half.

even tho they're putting games on PC (i don't agree with besides live services titles), they don't make the console user feel like trash like MS does, we still have some level of priority

Yes they do. They charge online on console even for their own games while making them free on PC, PC receives graphically enhanced versions of those games and they even get charged less. Over time things like that will destroy the PlayStation business, it's very reminiscent of the bad decisions Xbox was making years ago.

Exactly, Playstation won nothing, Xbox just died for many reasons. Sony's testament to its proclaimed win is PS games on PC. Heh.

That platform war really existed?
Or it was only in Xbots minds?

Because after Saturn x PlayStation we never faced a new platform war.
Super Nintendo x Mega Drive was another.
Nintendo vs Master System.

Maybe we can say PS3 x 360 x Wii could be considered a platform war but Wii was so different with a public of non-gamers that I even have doubts if it ever compete with others.

These where the real platform wars in the console history.
All the others was just one sided.

Nintendo and Valve will be stronger competitors for PlayStation going forward than Microsoft has been the past 10 years.

In fact we're already starting to see some of that play out. Look at Helldivers 2. Look at the number of Xbox console owners switching to PC rather than a PS5. Look at the growing public sentiment for PC (often against PlayStation), hinging on cringe talking points like "exclusives are BAD!" (ignoring that Steam has plenty of exclusives). And just wait until the Switch 2 launches, especially if the next PS Showcase isn't strong & PS5 Pro underperforms.

I believe some of our very own here have said it's not a "console war" anymore, but a platform war. And if that's true...then SIE's only actually gotten started. Microsoft Gaming as a platform will be more formidable than Xbox as console has been for the last decade. Nintendo & Valve as platforms are already very formidable and will only become more so with time. Epic as a platform is a juggernaut with Fortnite (itself becoming a platform now), then you have Apple, etc.

Winning the "console war" was the easy part. But SIE can't win a "platform war" if they don't ensure the absolute best for their console, at least for the next 10-15 years. That'd require doing a lot of innovations & prioritization they currently aren't doing right now.

i'm a bit bipolar but i speak facts in my topics

It's not facts, you're super shortsighted, which isn't how you run a business.

By the end of the decade SIE is going to have a handheld (not a PC handheld), a PC Storefront, and probably two consoles (PS5 and PS6)

PS5 will continue to be supported even when PS6 is out as a cheaper more affordable way to play a lot of games, including games like Fortnite and Helldivers. The PS5 base digital model will probably be cheaper than the Switch 2 at some point and more powerful.

Sony also recognizes the PC market and will try and sell their games AND 3rd party publishers games on that platform. They will also sell them peripherals. Controllers and headsets. They'll try to support VR on both PlayStation and PC.

They'll also have a handheld that they'll use to regain market share in Japan and to expand their market share in North America. This isn't even to mention that they'll eventually enable cloud support on PS Portal so that you don't even need a PS5 or PS6. You'll only need PS+ and to buy your games digitally, which is a win+win+win for Sony because they almost certainly sell the Portal at a profit and want you to buy games digitally rather than physically and they want you on PS+.

Sony is going to leverage their sole position in the console space to ensure they have essentially all games in the handheld space and many if not all in the PC space.

They're going to leverage their multimedia empire to try to make their games and platforms first and foremost in people's minds.

It's all about mindshare. Microsoft isn't wrong, they're just not capable of getting there successfully at this point.

Netflix is on every device. THAT'S how you get market cap like Netflix. Sony wants to be on every device or be every device. They want to be able to sell Spider-Man to 200 million people not 100 million, preferably on their terms.

Most of this is complete nonsense.

We have seen no evidence of xbox console owners switching to PC. We just know they haven't upgraded from Xbox One to Xbox Series (but the reality is that number isn't that off as it is), so these people are still waiting.

You're right that Sony will compete with Nintendo and Valve, but you're completely wrong about the rest.

This is a ridiculous take.

Sony earned a place in the industry with the PS1. They deserved a second chance and the turn around they pulled off from ps3-PS4 was phenomenal. The PS4 is their best console and deserved every sale it got.

Outside of that, they were In a good position when sega shat out of the industry and rid the coat tails of that. Now, when Microsoft haven't been real competition in ten years, they have sat back and royally fucked up.
The reason they're not getting slapped about is because there's no competition and Nintendo have focused on the handheld market.

If tomorrow, modern-day Sony had to compete with a PS1, PS4, Xbox 360 or Genesis, they would be dead last and in dire straits. They have an excellent piece of hardware, albeit overpriced, but have dropped the ball big time on exclusives and A* star first party studios.

Your right and it will be filled with People talking about high quality titles from Japan, EUROPE ect. People will talk about switch 2 when that gets more attention by third party's as well.

This site will be fine.

Correct.

Nintendo, Steam, Apple & Meta stand taller & have close wall gardens & imo holds better position in gaming then PS does now.

Xbox imploded itself & PS is following there strategy then leaders like Nintendo, Apple & Steam

Xbox killed itself & retrospectively PS won by default but PS didn’t win the war.

Only on PS funny enough Apple, Nintendo, Meta, Netflix still use “only on” to ensure there content won’t go anywhere else & I don’t see that changing anytime soon if ever.

PS is playing the short game like Xbox while Nintendo, Steam, Meta, Netflix & Apple are playing the extreme long game making there platform & storefront defacto in gaming

Best thing that could happen to this site and pretty much any game related social media is the death of Xbox. Hopefully their most hardcore fans will be bitter enough to just go away entirely.

The hardcore Xbox community has been incredibility toxic for over a decade, they just can't deal with the fact Xbox sucks.

Xbox is already dead the only people keeping it alive are the warmongers.
