He probably has a couple of consoles in a cupboard too.

It's crazy to watch this entire thing morph right before our eyes; it's like "The Thing" recreating itself.
This is the wild part. The reach, and the pervasiveness. Like what we are seeing across multiple media sites just turns on a dime.

Xbox influencers are pathetic.

They were pushing for this ABK deal to go through because it would make Microsoft more competitive in the gaming industry but now they're telling us exclusives are bad. lol

Bullshit.
"Exclusives are anti-consumer" is an old narrative from before MS went on their acquisition spree. Since that hasn't actually produced anything of value they are back to their old played out narratives.

So why even have different consoles if everything is released everywhere? exclusives produce halo effect which can and does lead to more people buying said console regardless if they buy the exclusives or not, if you do enjoy gaming on consoles then you should care about having exclusives.

Another talking point beginning to emerge is "Mid-gen consoles are bad, even anti-consumer."

It's more desirable to shorten the cycle of your console than to split your player base, apparently.

Perfectly in time to support another strategic MS decision. Coincidental, I'm sure.
Really? Where did you see that?

They can't relax for a week or two, do they?

Oh, yeah, FF7RR releasing 😂

The height of stupidity is for a pseudo-business professional and "analyst" to profess the view that product differentiation via software is not a sound and commonplace business practice. Which is more or less necessary in the platform business vis a vis competitors and is a foundational pillar of it. There is no consumer hoodwink - talk about gaslighting.

How did Windows come to monopoly status? Magic?

If this clown had to take a business test today and that was the only question, he would flunk it.

Absolute agenda clowns pushing a narrative and commentariat environment for some future that's somehow beneficial for certain corps in the hopes of degrading the competitive edge of the market dominant. More to the point, the hubris in the belief that his words can actually be a little nudge in the grand scheme towards that goal.

I see a lot of folks associate this to Xbox. It goes beyond Xbox, it's Microsoft flunkies. Xbox can be dropped from the hardware business tomorrow and you'll see the same narrative undercurrent focusing on PC and Windows Gaming. And as if often the case, Windows is omitted from the PC platform conversations completely for the fake veneer of non-association to MS - more beneficial that way when the invisible hand and its stench is not directly identified and defined. The fact of the matter is that in practical terms the colloquial word "PC" = a Microsoft led business consortium. Funny how Apple's "PCs" on the other hand are clearly and distinctly defined as Macs - and nobody ever gives a shit about Macs getting multiplatform support. Long story short, none of this shit will end if Xbox hardware dies instantly tomorrow and is no longer sold. Narrative approaches may change, a lull may occur, but sure enough, platform competition will eventually default to this. When it comes to gaming, Windows PCs and consoles are ardent rivals. Games are the most profitable form of software outside maybe operating systems (long term). Microsoft is a software company with a horse in the race, henceforth.

That's a strange take. Pro consoles don't split a player base any more than two SKUs does (X and S). Shortening a console lifecycle most certainly does do that, though. I guess it just goes to show how little critical thinking there is in fanboy echo chambers. Porting to PS and Nintendo has really done a number on those folks.

The hubris really does stand out, doesn't it? The absolute certainty that he has a valid point while the leads in the industry keep profiting doing what they've always done - in this case, exclusives.

Then... how do they justify the Seres S/X situation? There's an even BIGGER power gap there that DOES hurt their player base.

It's borderline clinically delusional, this kumbaya myth where there is a world where all console manufacturers just share their bespoke software with one another, and everyone is loyal to everyone else, and nobody drastically undercuts anyone else.

Everyone produces the level of hardware they can, and everyone competes by pricing non-aggressively, and despite the fact that the gap in finances between hardware manufacturers being so big and the potential hardware spec differences between each product ending up significant, every single developer would still be more than happy to spend even more dev years ensuring that every game will run on a hyper-powered Microsoft machine, and also on a glorified tablet made by Nintendo.

Mat is a fucking moron. And people should stop listening to him.

To be fair I don't think Mat is a moron, I think he's being intentionally disingenuous.
