IMO releasing a Pro console gives MS the opportunity to release their next gen console a year or more before the PS6, if MS skips a pro console themselves. Given the state of things, that’s not a wise decision by Sony.
But how does this negatively affects Sony? Lol

Yeah Ive been thinking that for awhile.

Since project Trojan whatever Series S was has failed ( cheaper model to sell more ), MS might try the 360 route again. Release a console a year before PS6. Probably in 2026. If they are smart they would put there billions into getting Elder Scrolls 6 on launch

Bingo!

Back in ‘05, MS swayed a lot of gamers in my circle (including me) to get the 360 thanks to their ‘Jump in’ campaign, and they never came back to PS ( I got mine day 1, though) until the middle of the PS4/One generation. Again, given current events, PS can’t afford to screw things up again like with the PS3 at the start of that gen.

Of course, it's way more complicated than that, but the risk is there.

It worked in 360 era because of games like COD, FIFA, NFS, Splinter Cell as well as Halo 2. Those games cannot run on PS2 nor Gamecube. The performance goes from 3D to HD is insane. Nowadays pulling that would be a suicide because a lot of third party games can be played on last gen, you will handcapped yourself with a weaker machine for the rest of the gen.

Also they will have to undercut ps5 pro in price. And I doubt any performance increase after pro will be significant as well

Also they have the Series S to account for. Dropping the Series S but support Series X would kill the Xbox platform. SeS:SeX is probably somewhere from 65:35 to up to 70:30

The only way they will drop series s is with a new gen.

Performance leaps in practical terms are so small these days I can see PS5 and Series S being cross gen until 2031. Pro consoles were a dumb move last gen and will be even worse on this one.

I don't believe these rumors. 30WGP (first of all, does sony ever refer to them as wgp? I don't think so) of rdna3 isn't powerful enough. Even 30WGP of rdna4 doesn't seem powerful enough, especially not for 8k. And 30WGP/60CU doesn't seem like it fits the design philosophy of the previous pro model. Also 18000 mt/s is extremely low for next gen memory.

But how would this hurt Sony? It wouldn't? Every 3rd party game will be cross gen so it's not like Playstation gamers will be missing out? The base would be too big to ignore and I find it hard to see Microsoft cutting off the Xbox Series Install base and just making any game full next gen lol.

If anything it benefits Sony more to see what the competition even doing.

Microsoft sold 5+ million Xbox 360 by the time the PS3 came out, trust and believe it was Sony messing up that pushed over a lot of gamers as many actually waited to see what the PS3 was coming with... Sony ended up losing a lot of the 3rd party Exclusives and Xbox capitalized on that and locked down many other plus.

And the same wouldn't happen again since this time, Sony ain't gonna be telling people to get two jobs to get the console lol.. and we won't see Sony taking the piss outta Rockstar or Sqaure

Nah. MS already said in court that they’re launching their next system in 2028, just like Sony is.

Also the Xbox brand at this point is tainted. If MS launches a year earlier, people will just wait one year for PS6. Just like people did when PS1 launched before N64. I know PS1 ended up winning that gen, but people were waiting for N64, before Nintendo screwed things up.
