Judging by sales volume on Amazon, Quest 2 & Quest 3 massively outsold PSVR 2 during the 2023 holiday season.

Tracking Quest 2, Quest 3, and PSVR 2 sales volume on Amazon US gives strong evidence that Quest headsets did quite well this holiday season, while PSVR 2 saw concerningly low sales. Looking at the numbers over the course of the holiday season shows that for every 1 unit of PSVR 2 sold, Quest sold more than 30 units.

The data compares all capacity variants of Quest 2 & Quest 3 against the standard PSVR 2 retail box and the PSVR 2 + Horizon Call of the Mountain bundle. The original PSVR would be counted but it has been discontinued. No refurbished units were counted.

We can also compare the trend over time by looking at PSVR 2 sales figures as a baseline compared to Quest 2 & Quest 3 sales.

Based on the data we’ve collected we can see that Quest had a pretty good holiday season with Meta selling at least 320,000 headsets on Amazon US alone between November 16th and January 16th. On the other hand, PSVR 2 sold only around 10,500 on Amazon US during that time.

That’s a concerningly low figure for PSVR 2, especially considering that the holiday season tends to be the best selling period for VR headsets. Even if Sony managed to sell PSVR 2 units at the same rate as this holiday for the entire year, it still wouldn’t even be 1/3 of the Quest units sold on Amazon US during this holiday period alone.

Close to no marketing for PSVR2, no PCVR support, no retro with the original PSVR, no wireless solution of any kind.

Sony PC strategy is upside down, everything that makes sense releasing on PC they don't do (PSVR2, VR games, GT7, Bloodborne/Demon's Souls), yet they bother with a bunch of stuff that has zero chance of success (R&C, Sackboy, Uncharted Nathan Drake Collection). PSVR2 and PSVR2 games have a small market so they would definitely benefit from expanding it to a bigger market.

Very reminiscent of the Vita where they came up with a great hardware but sabotaged it with bad business decisions and gave up instantly and proceeded to sabotage it to justify their decisions of killing it.

Gotta lower the price on the PSVR2. I think a lot of people are indeed interested in it but that price point is a huge barrier for them.

PSVR2 is a very undesirable product in its current state. No real game that sells the gadget, awful marketing, price of entry is literally over a thousand dollars, plus it's a hard reset for previous PSVR owners.

This should have been compatible with PC but... Alas apparently they suddenly care about keeping their ecosystem closed off, when it comes to actually selling hardware but not software.

They just are not that smart. If they had some better people in charge of PS and Sony, they really could take it to the next level.
They have a great brand that has been built up by loyal fans. And do make some good choices, but also some dire ones or lackluster effort. Same as Nintendo, but they both do stupid shit all the time.

Not getting Half Life Alyx, or Assassins Creed VR just shows they arent making the effort. Throw enough money at Valve and they would port it.
Seriously Horizon was ok, but who actually in the gaming department thought it would be enough to sell PSVR2 for a year… They are not organised enough

You have to buy a console to use PSVR2. Of course it will have a lower attach rate than a standalone device.

Compare quest 2 AND 3 to every other headset and let's see how it matches up

Yall are tripping, Sony is doing a great job with the PSVR2, you can't ask for bleeding edge tech while also asking for it to be cheap...what sense does that make? It's a premium product for those interested in an already niche subcategory of gaming! It was never supposed to sell gangbusters. It's outpacing the PSVR1 and that's all that really matters.

People always say bring it to PC but no one explains how that helps Sony or PlayStation fans....? The headset is probably sold at a loss, or at best very small profit, and you want them to put it on PC so that Valve can reap all the rewards after Sony spends years and millions of dollars on RND developing it? And how many PS5 owners do you think have a good enough PC to be able to play VR games? 😂 The overlap is tiny. Making PSVR2 compatible with PC literally just hands Valve free market share that they didn't have to work for. Maybe when Sony makes enough profit on them they can add PC support, but right now it makes zero sense to. We all know the profit is in the software NOT the hardware.

Just because the Quest 3 is selling better doesn't mean the PSVR2 is a failing product. It's less than a year old and you guys are rushing to label it as a failure and the next Vita...🤦‍♂️ When in reality it has a great library, 4/5 VR GOTY nominees are PSVR2 exclusive, and it's outselling its predecessor handily, it's objectively a success.

Not getting 1 game from a competing publisher means they aren't making an effort? 😂 Cmon.... they are obviously making great effort with the PSVR2, those who own one and are paying attention know this full well. But you're somewhat right, this is the only blunder on Sony's part thus far, still having no HL Alyx is a huge L. I hope it's announced at the next Showcase or State of Play. The Assassin's Creed game and Asgards Wrath would be great as well, but less likely.

Mat Piscatella literally said the VR market was cratering last year. And made a tweet which he deleted end of December saying VR market is pretty much not healthy.

But hey, keep the faith alive. I own a PSVR2 but it's not hard to see, the thing will end up a failure.

Ok Im wrong, maybe not making any effort isnt correct. Im sure they are making an effort.
But HLA is the most highly regarded VR game. They should of had it ages ago.
They barely have enough studios to regularly release normal PS5 games, let alone VR. They should know better since the Vita. They should of prepared better.

Why didn't they make nixxes port first party games to VR2 instead of PC? Lack of marketing also crushed the sales potential. Last of Us VR mode would have been a system seller, but instead they wasted 3 years just to cancel factions. I wish the studio leadership would get their shit together and lay down a more cohesive brand strategy, feels like they've just been coasting on momentum ever since the gen started

GT7, Beat Saber, Walking Dead... There's three there that will give you hours and hours of entertainment.
