Quest 2 and 3 outsold PSVR 2 on Amazon over the Holiday Season

Judging by sales volume on Amazon, Quest 2 & Quest 3 massively outsold PSVR 2 during the 2023 holiday season.

Tracking Quest 2, Quest 3, and PSVR 2 sales volume on Amazon US gives strong evidence that Quest headsets did quite well this holiday season, while PSVR 2 saw concerningly low sales. Looking at the numbers over the course of the holiday season shows that for every 1 unit of PSVR 2 sold, Quest sold more than 30 units.

The data compares all capacity variants of Quest 2 & Quest 3 against the standard PSVR 2 retail box and the PSVR 2 + Horizon Call of the Mountain bundle. The original PSVR would be counted but it has been discontinued. No refurbished units were counted.

We can also compare the trend over time by looking at PSVR 2 sales figures as a baseline compared to Quest 2 & Quest 3 sales.

Based on the data we’ve collected we can see that Quest had a pretty good holiday season with Meta selling at least 320,000 headsets on Amazon US alone between November 16th and January 16th. On the other hand, PSVR 2 sold only around 10,500 on Amazon US during that time.

That’s a concerningly low figure for PSVR 2, especially considering that the holiday season tends to be the best selling period for VR headsets. Even if Sony managed to sell PSVR 2 units at the same rate as this holiday for the entire year, it still wouldn’t even be 1/3 of the Quest units sold on Amazon US during this holiday period alone.
These numbers are bullshit because they can't know the sales of a product in Amazon, so can't compare them other than seeing if a product is higher or lower in Amazon's ranking for a category.

Meaning, they can see if a product is top 10 or top 50, but don't have any idea on their sales.

But yes, worldwide (in all places, not only Amazon) Quest sells way more than PSVR (even if the difference isn't that big as shown in the graph).

Mat Piscatella literally said the VR market was cratering last year. And made a tweet which he deleted end of December saying VR market is pretty much not healthy.

But hey, keep the faith alive. I own a PSVR2 but it's not hard to see, the thing will end up a failure.
I did a VR market research for one of the games I'm working on and this is bullshit, maybe this is the reason he deleted it. And he/NPD doesn't cover the Meta Quest store, where most VR games are sold.

There's a consensus between all market analysis firms on saying that the VR market is higher than ever in both revenue and userbase, that it grew in 2023 as did in previous years and all of them expect it to continue growing. I can show many related charts about this.

Regarding PSVR2, Sony shown its launch window numbers and said it was performing as they expected: better than PSVR1. They were happy with the PSVR1 performance, so were happy with PSVR2 performance too.

In VR Quest (mostly Quest 2, now being replaced by Quest 3) is the clear market leader, with PSVR (PSVR1 sales has almost dead, now PSVR2 bumped it) as a distant second.

All this is true. PSVR2 is not running away with VR sales but it seems to be performing better than PSVR 1. Attached to a console it was never going to do Quest numbers especially since Quest is alot more than gaming. Quest 2 is selling like crazy and that was obvious when looking at the Amazon numbers prior to official number release.

A HL Alyx on PSVR2 would be glorious.

Sony is half-assing their VR initiative. If Valve doesn't want to port it where is the flagship VR game from Sony? They didn't even bother with a Astro Bot port.

I wanted Astrobot, it's a shame.

GT7, Beat Saber, Walking Dead... There's three there that will give you hours and hours of entertainment.
I own GT7 and Beat Saber. Never said there isn't some decent content on VR.

Games are coming out for PSVR2 monthly if not every few weeks. It's great Quest exsists because many are ports. Idc if they are ports, a game is a good game if it is no matter what.

PSVR2 is the thing that should have supported PC instead of porting Horizon and TLOU
why? People constantly say this, but never say why ???
People always say bring it to PC but no one explains how that helps Sony or PlayStation fans....? The headset is probably sold at a loss, or at best very small profit, and you want them to put it on PC so that Valve can reap all the rewards after Sony spends years and millions of dollars on RND developing it? And how many PS5 owners do you think have a good enough PC to be able to play VR games? 😂 The overlap is tiny. Making PSVR2 compatible with PC literally just hands Valve free market share that they didn't have to work for. Maybe when Sony makes enough profit on them they can add PC support, but right now it makes zero sense to. We all know the profit is in the software NOT the hardware.
I've not heard a single good argument, or any argument at all....

Haven't used my PSVR2 since the first week of purchase. GT is amazing though.

How is it performing better than PSVR2? Serious question. There hasn't been a sales update in seemingly over half a year. VR hardware revenue has been doing great; software revenue is very small in comparison. Then again, the market for VR-only games is pretty small in and of itself and for enthusiasts it's more about traditional games with VR mode support.

All we really know about PSVR2 is that it did somewhat better than PSVR1 out of the gate and during the initial launch phase of maybe 3 months, but that leaves a whole nine months where for all we know, the momentum has dropped heavily below PSVR1. The Amazon estimates aren't a confirmation of that but considering Amazon's a pretty massive online retailer, that sales volume rate compared to Quest 2 and 3 isn't good.

I thought they hadn't announced a release window yet, just delayed it out of 2023?
I just remember it for 2024. It says will release late 2024.

The promising VR-RPG Behemoth is now officially called “Skydance's Behemoth” and will be delayed significantly. Originally planned for late 2023, the VR game will now be released a year later, in late 2024, for PSVR 2, PC-VR, Quest 2, and Quest 3.Oct 6, 2023
