B+ for me. Tough to grade PlayStation 5 for the generation when there's over four years left to go. It's currently ahead of PlayStation 4 for me personally. Below are my completed games between 2013 launch through 2017 for PlayStation 4 and my completed games between 2020 through the first half of 2024 for PlayStation 5.
PlayStation 4
- Knack (6.0/10, 2013)
- Infamous: First Light (7.0/10, 2014)
- The Order: 1886 (7.0/10, 2015)
- Until Dawn (7.0/10, 2015)
- Alienation (8.5/10, 2016)
- Ratchet & Clank (8.5/10, 2016)
- Uncharted 4 (8.5/10, 2016)
- Shadow of the Beast (6.5/10, 2016)
- Horizon Zero Dawn (9.5/10, 2017)
- Uncharted: The Lost Legacy (9.5/10, 2017)
- Nex Machina: Death Machine (8.5/10, 2017)
- Matterfall (7.0/10, 2017)
- Knack II (7.5/10, 2017)
PlayStation 5
- Marvel's Spider Man: Miles Morales (9.0/10, 2020)
- Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart (9.0/10, 2021)
- Horizon Forbidden West (9.0/10, 2022)
- God of War Ragnarok (9.5/10, 2022)
- Marvel's Spider Man 2 (9.0/10, 2023)
- Rise of the Ronin (8.0/10, 2024)
- Stellar Blade (9.0/10, 2024)
PlayStation 4 gave me 13 games for an average rating of 7.7/10. PlayStation 5 has given me thus far 7 games for an average rating of 8.9/10. Higher quality games for me on PlayStation 5 but I had more quantity on PlayStation 4. This is for games published by Sony and doesn't include third party console exclusives such as Kena, FF XVI or Rebirth for PlayStation 5 or a few Yakuza games for PlayStation 4. Either way, PlayStation 5 is superior in quality but inferior in quantity, at least for me. The real challenge will be how the rest of the generation plays out.
PlayStation 4 between 2018 and 2020 with the stopping point being the day before PlayStation 5 launched.
- God of War (9.5/10, 2018)
- Detroit: Become Human (8.0/10, 2018)
- Marvel's Spider Man (9.0/10, 2018)
- Days Gone (9.5/10, 2019)
- The Last of Us Part II (8.5/10, 2020)
- Ghost of Tsushima (9.5/10, 2020)
PlayStation 5 future wise
- Astro Bot (September 2024)
- Lego Horizon Adventure (Fall 2024)
- Marvel's Wolverine
- Lost Soul Aside
- Marvel's Venom (unannounced)
- Cory Barlog's new IP (unannounced)
- Ghost of Tsushima 2 (unannounced)
I believe the second half of PlayStation 5 will be better for me than the second half of PlayStation 4 in quality and quantity but remains to be seen. As of now, I would rate PlayStation 5 a B+. Excluding Days Gone 2 not happening, I don't have any major negatives or complaints thus far. Bring on the second half of PlayStation 5 baby!!!
