So how would y'all feel if Sony bought more Remake studios for old IPs?

Giving new life to older IPs with chance new games in these IPs seems like a good idea?
Imagine a Syphon Filter remake for PS5 or Jak and Daxter remake..

I'd rather they didn't. Just focus on new IP's.

My PC (16 cores/32 threads) runs PlayStation emulators extremely well. 4K, 60fps 16x AA, filters, etc..
It doesn't get much better than that.

I don't think it should be a focus for them but I don't mind and enjoy some gd remakes. My only disappointment is they fucking remake uncharted games, tlou and don't add the MP or update it. I think tht is a super lost opportunity abd thy could make a killing with selling cosmetics so it'll be worthwhile for them.

I'd be pretty happy.

They have lots of old IPs that should be revived for PS5. PlayStation has no shortage of new IPs, and they are developing 12+ new IPs. So it'd be a nice mix of remakes, sequels, and new IPs.

Hmmm, it would be better to have 2 or 3 studios trained by the likes of Bluepoint to make remakes ,so the rest of the WWS studios focus on making new IP and Sequels.

TLOU remake was pretty dumb overall and only probably done for TV/Movies ( Imagine what a TLOU remake on PS6 would of looked like, would of been much better )
But Id love for them to have a few studios to remake Uncharted 1, Infamous, KillZone 2, Jak n Daxter, Legend of Dragoon, Syphon Filter, ICO and also some 3rd Party Playstation classics like MGS, Silent Hill, Persona 1-2 etc

They already have the only great known remake studio, Bluepoint. And their internal Sony VASG, who basically made the TLOUP1 remake. Plus also have the best PC porting team, which also tweaks and improve games. They only have to continue growing these internal teams in order to allow them work in more projects at the same time.

I'd also like to see a Syphon Filter remake, but I think it would more sense as a full reboot because the game is too outdated in many areas. Also, maybe Syphon Filter didn't have big enough sales to make them confident about spending a full top AAA remake/reboot. I think more realistic that their next remake would be GoW 1 or Uncharted 1.

This is getting tiring, SOTC and DmS were awesome remakes, the games were legendary, and kinda type that needed remakes, and that weren't available on PS4. But with TLOU and HZD this has become lame AF. Modern Sony don't get the core points of remakes.

Who would make it though? Bluepoint is doing new stuff and is VASG even making games still?

HZD is not a remake. It's a remaster.

SSM is growing, they could create a SSM team to do it with the help of Sony VASG.
In the same way Sony VASG and ND did the TLOUP1 remake.
Or regarding an Uncharted 1 remake, same ND+TLOUP1 teams could make it.
Bluepoint is also growing, they could make multiple teams to work on multiple games at the same time.

But who knows, I think that after Demon's Souls and TLOUP1 and all the crossgens/remasters/director cuts they already released they won't make any remake in several years. I think they'll focus mostly on:
  • Normal SP sequels (Spider-Man 2, GoT 2, DS2, Uncharted 5, TLOU 3)
  • MP standalone GaaS games of popular 1P IPs (TLOU, Uncharted, GoT...)
  • SP+MP GaaS games that already had a big MP focus (Helldivers 2, GT8, MLB, Wipeout, Motorstorm)
  • VR support for some of the games listed above and VR spinoffs like Horizon CoM from other popular IPs
  • New IPs, both GaaS and SP
  • A few PS5 + (some time later) PC remasters/next gen SKU for those with potential great sales specially on PC (Bloodborne, TLOU2, Nathan Drake Collection)

I wouldn't mind another remake only studio alongside Bluepoint. Still hoping for a Jak & Daxter remake trilogy ala Ratchet & Clank 2016 and a Resistance remake trilogy.

Make sense, as they continue into PS5, PS6 etc those IP will age and reviving classics from time to time seems like its more of a thing Sony wants as a staple going forward, so I do think it makes sense to buy 1 or 2 other teams that specialize in this.

how many remake studios do you need? Bluepoint is enough

I disagree. That is just 1 studio and they are working on their own IP, I think it makes sense to include a 2nd or 3rd.

I'd rather they didn't. Just focus on new IP's.

It depends on the remake, how old the title is, how much liberty Sony is willing to allow those teams.

If we are talking about a "reboot" type thing where they are making creative choices to make a new story or add different features in terms of design, then I think you have a greater point maybe, but I still feel it makes sense to have 1 or 2 of those teams in your back pocket as people will always have a soft spot for older IP. For everyone that was bitching about The Last Of Us remake, consider all of the request in the same post saying shit like "WOW, its too soon to remake a PS3 game broz......Resistance Fall Of Man should have gotten it" lol

Sony will always have new IP being made, thats not an either or, so it makes sense to buy a team to do that vs having one of their established teams working on stuff like that.

@SSfox "This is getting tiring, SOTC and DmS were awesome remakes, the games were legendary, and kinda type that needed remakes"

OHHHH I see, only the ones you want, but its tiring when you don't like the IP.... sir, relax with the bias, I don't think many can take you seriously with such heavy hate man. I keep it on the subject of the concept of a remake, not if I fucking like the game or not. It sounds like your argument 99.99% time is based on if you like it or not and then try to force that idea that is not needed based on your feelings or something lol

I like those games too man, but that bias is a bit too strong.

"HZD this has become lame AF. Modern Sony don't get the core points of remakes."

??? HZD isn't getting remade...

@Kokoloko "TLOU remake was pretty dumb overall and only probably done for T" Unlikely and doubtful. Sony already has a history of doing remakes, TLOU literally sold over 20 plus million units, it would be fucking stupid to not remake it, it would be really weird if they didn't, yet we got Demon Souls lol So if they are remaking games and we know them to do this as we saw last gen, its not shocking that they'd continue that this gen, its not shocking its of one of the biggest IP they've ever put out.

They didn't need a TV show to remake this as where the fuck is that Demon Souls show? SoTC? lol Come on bud, logically think about this vs "pretty dumb", I think COD is dumb, I don't bring that shit into why they REMADE a fucking game, COD4 moved millions of units, thus it makes sense to remake, even if I Don't care for the IP anymore, so I think some of you need to separate that weird bias to give a solid answer on remakes as a business model in general.

Nah, I’m still not even convinced BluePoint was worth it.

A remake is one thing. Making your own game is not. I mean… look at 343
