Rumor was Remedy-Sony talks just didn't work out despite there being exploratory talks. Just a rumor of course.

Returnal is the AAA-lite in scope title folks want so much from Sony. Specially in the shooter genre which is undeserved by Sony first party - and, in this case, targeting the hardcore like Sony's partnerships with From/Team Ninja. It's a portfolio filler. Sort of like Helldivers, just different flavor.

Control is not a console seller, and more like a portfolio filler.
Yes both returnal and control 1 are portfolio fillers, though returnal has some of the best gameplay of any game. That's why I said a future control 2 would likely be a system seller, as it will have the improved graphics of alan wake 2 and the fast paced combat it's known for. While housemarque's arcade niche will continue to be a good portfolio filler

He's still there... isn't he? Till around April?
He retired but yes, oficially/technically continues being CEO until the end of the FY, when formally Totoki will become interim CEO to designate the next CEO.

During this transitional period Jimbo won't make any important change, he basically will be petting his cat, taking some vacations in Spain, and watching the construction of a nearby building or whatever retired englishmen do while someone else does his job (I assume some senior VPs, overviewed by Totoki).

Edit: I just found a new interview, where he mostly talks about football, wine, good food and stuff he watches and reads, and where does he goes for lunch. Doesn't seem very busy https://luxe-magazine.co.uk/2023/11/the-luxe-lowdown-jim-ryan/

Good luck. Played games with one of them a handful of times so always got a shit ton of respect for their team. Not worried about the health of the studio one bit. I love what they do. Nex Machina and Returnal are definitely my two favorites.
