@mod team

I went back and forth with Yurinka in June, just 5 months ago saying that Sony wasn't pausing their acquisitions only for him to come into this thread and say he was right.

I don't think it is an insult to say he is full of shit for doing so.

His go-to method is gaslighting. Say whatever you want and then double down on it when you're proven wrong.

So he was involved in the purchasing of a minority stake in FromSoftware 2 years ago, but we're going to pretend like he had nothing to do with this?

It's not a maybe. He's involved if not the driving force behind this.
Well then I will give him all the props.

Well then I will give him all the props.

People just need to chill out with the over praising of people in japan and the demonization of people in the west.

Leadership across the globe make good moves and bad moves and people should be judged the merits.

Massive W for Hermen here if he can 1. Get it across the finish line 2. Manage the assets appropriately.

Hermen has a lot of work to do over the next 5 or so years. He has to manage Bungie and potentially FromSoftware both are in the same vein as Naughty Dog. Purchasing both within the same generation is actually bonkers. These are industry leaders. The only studios left of this magnitude are CDPR and MAYBE Larian if their next game is successful.

But people want to hate on Hermen and Jim Ryan because a start up studio's first ever game wasn't successful? I think Firesprite was a bigger miss than Firewalk, but no one really wants to talk about them.

They wouldn't be a monopoly. Do you know what a monopoly is?

I hate that people just say things just to say them.

They absolutely would become exclusive. The Bungie acquisition was more an exception to the rule because their board of directors kept control post acquisition.

That won't be the case with FromSoftware as Kadokawa doesn't give a fuck about that.

Sony will force Tencent out of FromSoftware and the games are 100% becoming exclusive, so Xbox is out. The bigger question is whether Sony would continue to publish their games on Steam or an exclusive PC Storefront, but my guess would be an exclusive PC storefront. It's kind of the point of a buy like this in tandem with what they have with Bungie.

Future Bungie games for that matter beyond Destiny 2 and Marathon are likely to be foreclosed on Xbox too.
Tbf people have been speculating over a launcher for some time now. It's a risk given Steam's dominance, but if this goes through Sony may feel Elden Ring, Marathon and Destiny 3 could be good Trojan horses so to speak.

Each of those games will be blasted by media and PC fans, PS haters.
PC fans and haters will not allow something like Sony to have a successful PC launcher.

FromSoft is gonna be overrated over night if Sony buys them. Destiny almost died having DLC timed exclusives for PS4, it would be shat on from high heavens if it was a PSN launcher only lol. Marathon already has a rounds of haters ready for it to fail.

Sony is doomed if they do, doomed if they dont when it coms to PC. They are better off sticking to their own loyal fans, flipping the bird to the haters and pc and expanding their own platform. They dont lose anything going back to what they were doing the past 3 decades

Everyone can buy everything everywhere even make monopolies, just not Sony.
Sony is not allow or whole media will cry and shill will make tantrums.

If it would be m$ instead of Sony, i would be best acquisition from sliced bread.
Bruh these same people & jounalist where hyping up Zenimax & ABK because they thought it would be exclusive (knowing exclusive drives a platform, hardware, storefront & ecosystem) they even double down that MS would buy more publishers & or a publisher like Take 2

I’ll never forget when Mr porkchop changed his pfp to crash w a Xbox logo

Just in, hoeglaw says Sony is broke.

The last time he was shilling for xbox he got such a meltdown that he nearly died.

Please Phil, hoeglaw think of your health first, trying to one up Sony second. Girst health.

Next when Sony buys Kadokawa, the headlines will be. FromSoft is overrated, they dont try new things, and the game engine is old.
The Frame stutters, pacing and shimmers or some new bs excuse to why FromSoft games arent good..
Get ready to hear the word “Outdated” alot real soon lol

With the timing, I'd be surprised if Marathon doesn't launch on Steam.

Destiny 3 though, yeah, probably not.

It's kind of a risk Sony HAS to take. You're either going to pay Valve your ~25% for the rest of time (maybe even higher if they raise rates) OR you can not pay them anything AND make additional revenue from 3rd parties publishing to your storefront.

The difference in revenue is significant.

Current PC gamers might be extremely loyal to Steam, but there are more than enough PC players who aren't exclusively on Steam and more than enough new players every year that you can build around.

The real question isn't will Sony put out a PC launcher, but rather when will they.

Some of these comments about Hermen are weird, don't idolize people. Sony and ps are large cooperations. Now before you hit reply and write a angry post. Here is a nice poster for you on the wall.

I'm not a fan of this. Unless a third party looks to be going tits up or it is a developer who has almost an exclusive relationship with a playform holder, I'm not delighted with consolidation. It sucked when Xbox did it and it sucks now. I'm not well versed on the manga market so I can't possibly comment on whether this has the potential to make a monopoly.

No1 wanted Sony acquiring publishers till MS started doing it and acquired 10-20 big Ips and threatening to buy even more studios and publishers including Sega.

This isnt too different from Sony buying Insomniac, Guerilla, ND or Bluepoint and House Marque.
They work on a few games together then Sony would purchase the studio. Sony has been working with Fromsoft for a long time, before Demons Souls and Bloodborne. But they have a good creative relationship. Which is exactly how ND, Guerilla and Insomniac got purchased.

TBH Ive wanted them to buy the likes of FromSoft, Quantic, Level 5 during the end of the PS3 gen as studios.

So lardass Hoeg thinks Sony can't afford it? Didn't Sony offer over $20 billion for Paramount just this past Summer?

They never formally offered them the 26 billion. It was a non-binding offer to see their books and do their due diligence. They didn't want anything but the film/tv studios, so Apollo would have had to pony up for the rest.

I'm not sure that saga is over. It's not the first time Paramount has been shopped around the block. If Skydance can better manage the debt, but still have to sell the assets, Sony will swoop in.
