Fromsoft definitely could use a new engine that's for sure. What engine did Bluepoint used for Demon's Soul Remake? Was it Unreal? Well, whatever it is it ran the game great and the game looks good too. From should switch over to that.
No, bluepoint uses an in house engine.

Of course, there are competitors, like GOG and Epic Games, but Steam had the first mover advantage and established a major major competitive foothold because of it.
So it is exactly the same as a console library, in that regard.

And Epic is being ridiculed for even trying to get into it, mostly used for the freebies.

So, PC Gamers are ironically doing the same as console warring, but just with launchers, instead of platforms.

Pc is just another competitor, exact same as another console.

The mentality is the same, as you point out.

It's not really that ironic at all. Whether you buy a Playstation, Switch, Xbox, or specialized gaming PC, they're all fundamentally computers. Brand affinity exists within every market, except those under a true monopoly.

You'd anticipate that some people would prefer the Epic Games store, while others prefer Steam. Even within this space, you have platforms trying to implement exclusives like Alan Wake 2 on Epic.

These PC stores / launchers are platforms. They have different things, but like consoles, their main business revolves around a store where they sell games and DLC's/IAPs.

In cases like EA, Epìc or Ubisoft they don't aim to compete against Steam (even less against consoles), in their case their main focus is to sell their own games skipping the 20/30% revenue cut sent to Steam or others.

Regarding PC stores vs consoles, PC does not compete against consoles because their demographics, gaming habits, purchasing habits, genre preferences, place of the house where they are played and several other things are very different. The userbase overlap between both represents a percent pretty small.

We are all hypocrites when it comes to acquisitions. We all sat here arguing how bad ABK was for gaming while having a Sony acquisition wish list thread going. I'll admit I'm a hypocrite, because Xbox / Microsoft sucks and I'm happy to see anything that damages them

Just more people to laugh at who will be crying if the From Software acquisition happens
Context is key though. Sometimes its like.. we're putting forth a debate point whereby we think a studio/publisher would benefit more from Sony's stewardship over MS's, or benefit Sony more than MS. One could be for or against an acquisition, depending on whom the new owner would be, without necessarily being a hippocrit.

Nintendo fanboys as well as Xbots don't want Sony to buy Kadokawa. Here are some comments on Nintendo Life about it:

I don't like Sony and don't really care for anything they do gaming related, but this would make me like Sony even less.

If Sony is stupid enough to throw away the money Spike Chunsoft makes on Nintendo consoles, that's their problem.
There's plenty of other than Nintendo can make games with.

Kadokawa is a very important Japanese company. If Sony will buy them... RIP Japanese media.

Sony owns Crunchyroll and Funimation. Now it's hungry for Kadokawa. It would be horrible.

If this is true then Sony is just as bad as Microsoft. Enough with the freaking acquisitions already.

This acquisition sounds awful. I don't want Sony anywhere near FromSoft or Spike Chunsoft, they'll find a way to ruin those games or just kill off the IPs and studios.

I've also read that this company owns Famitsu as well... Yeah, this would be terrible. Hopefully this is false or the purchase gets blocked.

Nintendo fanboys hate everything related to Sony, eg PlayStation, and that's the reason why they don't want Sony to buy Kadokawa because they think that Sony is destroying the gaming and anime industry

Well fortunately for them they have nothing to worry about. Sony is about to spend billions just to gain zero exclusives.

Yes. With a rare few exceptions, like Alan Wake 2, this is why most PC publishers will still have their games available on Steam. In some cases, like Ubisoft and EA, they may force a launcher from a game purchased through Steam. While it does provide some minor competition for Steam, the main purpose is to try to secure recurring revenue purchases after the base game is sold, without paying the Steam fees.

Mmm. Can't wait for this acquisition to close so that:

  1. Nintendo loses 3rd party developers
  2. Xbox loses access to From titles
  3. PC stans have to wait a year+ for releases AND will be forced to bend the knee and sign up for PSN if they want to play
  4. From Software games are made even better with improved tech and support from Sony studios
I see no downsides and only upsides here
Sony should buy Kadokawa because I want to see Nintendo fanboys cry

The delusional green rats over on XboxEra are pathetically clinging to the hope that Microsoft might swoop in and buy Kadokawa.

Lol this is delusion. Xbox just bought ABK a year ago for 80 billion. They're chilling right now.Buying From software is dumb for Xbox anyway.

I'm curious to see if Sony can actually get a deal done. Everytime theirs a rumor they're about to buy something, they don't get the deal done.
