Things like this getting announced before a decisions is pretty lame. I was under the impression, they have been discussing and probably made a decision behind the scenes.

But this, this could easily fall through via all sorts of pressure and shenanigans…
Phil and MS right now

LOIs don't get generated out of thin air.

Before you generate a letter of intent, there are informal and formal discussions. Terms are generated as part of the intent letter.

Doesn't mean this can't fall through, but it's clear that this is pretty serious.

The concerns here are someone almost certainly violated the terms of the LOI which would have almost certainly called for no public statements on the matter.

Either way, it's not going to take long before we get an update on this. I'd say we'll know a lot more by the end of the year. I also doubt Sony is going to fail to go through with a major M&A like this on their home soil, especially after not going through with Paramount.

yeah I don't think he will shrink their budgets. They will still be in the $200-300 mil range. But he will try to make sure they won't balloon to 400-500 mil

He lives in his own little world.

Sony wants to flatten budgets, which involves becoming more efficient, minimizing scope of projects. So they'll look to cap team sizes and project lengths, salaries, benefits, perks, and use AI.

If you look at greenhouse, they're still hiring the vast majority of people in California... They're not going anywhere.

Post more tearful takes from other forums please

Here's everybody's favourite purple/Installbase asshat Fiendcode fantasising about studios buying themselves out. The reality? All of the franchises they made for Switch go kaput :)

Given how SIE handles Japan and non-AAA dev in general, I'd hope Spike Chunsoft, Acquire and Gotcha Gotcha Games all achieve management buyouts like Dragami Games did a year or two back or worst case, fall under SME/Aniplex.

None of them would survive a year under PlayStation Studios management. And their only really big games (Dragon Ball Xenoverse, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, Octopath Traveler, Jump Force, Mario & Luigi, etc) are contracts via other publishers.

Imagine writing this in seethescript at the same time as the Japanese/non-AAA title Astro Bot from Sony's Asobi Studios is crowned game of the year.

Imo Metaphor, FF7 Rebirth and Astrobot are all candidates for game of the year. But because of posts like this from the Xbox cult, I would grant Astrobot the crown.

These PC Mustard Racers are insufferable. The Souls Genre was greatly contributed by the PlayStation. Kingsfield on PS1 & PS2, Demon Souls on PS3 and Bloodborne on PS4 even before Souls become widely known. Smh

they crying about nothing games will still be on PC and they'll the pirate shit or emulate it.

Maybe, I'm lucky. I beat Bloodborne for a 5th time a day before the news came. On a side note the game is just as much of a masterpiece today as it was in 2015.

Lmao why is Sony not releasing GoW or SM on Xbox a counterpoint to ABK games continuing to release on PlayStation?
Exactly, but look at the comments, they're all eating up the evil Sony narrative ☠️

We're at the point where Sony cannot do anything without getting shit on lmao. Internet now treats them like pre MS ABK, EA, and Ubisoft even though they have always been leagues beyond any of those publishers.

But if MS buys 80 billion worth of publishers it's somehow ok... quite odd.

This is the narrative being spread on TikTok and it's getting millions of views. That Microsoft should be allowed to buy whatever but Sony shouldn't.
