As it will cost you more to build an equivalent PC to the series S for the same money. Different business models. What matters is how much is the difference.

The most important cost as always is hidden and non monetary: switching costs.

With most people's gaming libraries already built, switches are so unlikely...

Even if someone buys another platform, they likely keep their old one.

My Pro equivalent setup on pcpartpicker, if I take Richard’s comment about the 4070, came to a total of $1416.57.

It has 32GB of RAM, though, so subtract $20 to make it comparable to the 16 GB of RAM in the Pro.

Of course, I buy all new parts. I'm lazy about hunting for deals, and I don’t buy used.

Did you have 2tb SSD in there?

The 4070 is nearly 500 pounds and over in UK and Ireland, so it would be more expensive overall here too.

Yep. A Samsung 980 Pro with 2TB. Total for that was $206. I can find better deals somewhere else, but again, I was lazy.

Ryzen 7 3700X:150.11
Generic CPU cooler:29.99
Moterboard:$99
Memory:$89
Storage:$206 2TB
GC:$539 (4070)
Case:89
PS:$99
OS:109

You can instantly lop off $100 for the OS. You don't need to buy a key to use Windows. And how did you spend $206 on an SSD? A 2 TB SSD should run you no more than about $100-$120. Sometimes less.

A little bit more? they are being very generous, an equivalent PC is much more expensive (without considering used parts or questionable origin), and we are not even considering the actual performance, because the PS5 Pro is obviously superior to an equivalent because it is a dedicated hardware

Forgot:
Cooling since these cpus don't often come with one or it's terrible
Mouse and keyboard, preferrable gaming type since dualsense is also gaming grade.
Like.. a windows 11 lol. I mean... it's not really free is it

Like... if we are really thorough, a mousepad is like another 20$ lol but let's not go there since it's kinda stupid

quick, terrible pc. I used 3700x because that's more less what ps5 has. Picked normal components, not all the lowest grade stuff. OK motherboard does not need to be x570 but it better be if you want another 4.0 drive in there (I would add 500gb drive just for system)
