The Q Lite thing (portable streaming handheld) is really the most disappointing gaming hardware rumor ever. There is so much potential with all the handhelds using AMD APUs these days, why bother with something on that form factor if this is what you are going to do with it?

Complete garbage, they should not release it if the rumors are true.

Gonna depend on the specs for me.

Give me: double gpu power, vrr support for freesync/freesync ultimate, a better cpu with higher cache for vr, dualsense edge included. I'll pay $700-800 for that.

A 72 CU GPU at > 2.3 Ghz would be awesome.

Is that even possible at 4 nm and the same power envelope as the PS5 regular? Maybe

I'm not hype about a Pro but Holiday 2024 is like 2025 so that's far enough to not bother thinking about it.

While a Pro model might make sense considering we may be looking at an 8-year generation thanks to the chip shortage absolutely fucking up the first year, I don't see the purpose of it if it can't hit 4K/60 with RT enabled. Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart already accomplishes 1440p/60 with RT on, so that extra push is absolutely within the realm of possibility.

If it were up to me, I would want the PS5 Pro to hit the following targets:
  • 4K/60 + RT
  • 1440p/90 + RT (with VRR)
  • 4K/90, no RT (with VRR)
  • 1440p/120, no RT
If games can hit those, and the console is at $600 or less, it'll be a hell of a deal. It'll be even better if Sony pushes publishers to put support for the upcoming FSR 3.0 in more games.

As for the Q Lite, I don't care about it at all. If Sony makes a handheld, I'm not interested in anything but a Vita 2 (without proprietary memory cards this time).

chances are the goal of the Pro would be to get Ratchet's 40 Hz fidelity mode to run at 60 Hz

"The "PRO" will help...."

The problem is not the hardware, the problem is the software..... more specifically a critical lack of investment industry wide in new engines by devs and publishers (or in corporate lingo - new technologies).... aka a critical lack of new upgraded rendering pipelines, animation tech and the like..... as well as last gen lowest common denominator anchors.... most gross of all being the Series S as the gen progresses.

IF PC and the graphics card market can't get that obvious relationship through your thick skull after playing out year after year, nothing ever will. Consoles don't need to become more like PCs as far as consumer purchase behavior goes. It's unfortunate to see folks fall for the consumerism addiction. It's a dead end already played out in another similar market (although you could make the argument Nintendo/SEGA and its add-on experiements provide precedence in the console space - in failure of course). Don't matter if they release a PRO ELITE X PRO LEET SUPER LEET you still gonna get some cross-gen engine games that will look out of date on your precious PRO, and you'll be outraged at it or bitch about a "PRO patch". The sales pitch is having you believe that by purchasing a PRO you'll experience a big difference - that's literally what it boils down to in those meeting rooms at those HQs aka how much BS and buzzwords they can throw at you until you bite. They know some will bite automatic, the question is, how many.

BTW the relationship between a Series S and X are no different than a PS5, and a PS5 PRO, and we know that a lot of shit is flung to the other side here on that topic. It's literally just a starting baseline power slider moved to the right. Perception management by Sony here being superior.

Sony needs the handheld badly for strategic reasons. Everything else is meh.

I'm still interested in the handheld if it is real and not just a remote play device. If it can play something natively without a constant internet connection, I'm in. Don't know if I want a Pro this soon, I just got my PS5 last summer. Really depends on the price and performance upgrade.

Id buy the Pro day 1.
There will probably be an Xbox Series X Elite/Pro etc so would be stupid of Sony if they didnt make a pro version of their console. They probably know MS is making another one so they have to make one too

Day 1 for that PS5 Pro.

I'm not sure about the new PS5, if it is way smaller, I might sell my old digital.... if it looks the same, I wont bother.

Qlite.. really dont see the point. PS games are not meant to be played on small screens.
If the PSP3 was able to play them via hardware and not streamed/cloud I would buy it.
Im not much of a portable gamer, even though Ive owned all the Nintendo and Playstation Handelds, but Id still get it if it would come with my PS4/PS5 library. I travel alot for months at a time so it would be useful.

It would help fight Switch in Japan and plenty people including the younger generation would love to play Spideman 2, GT7, Street Fighter, FF16, Monster Huntrer World, RE4, GTA6 on the small screen. Not exactly for me but it wouldnt have any of the issues Vita had and all the all the pros ( Software, Memory, full controls ) Vita is not how future PSP‘s should be judged.

Not happening, due to recent big inflation rise, fuel cost rise, component costs rise etc. to put a normal PS5+dualsense edge bundle in the stores should cost like that or more.

They'd lose too much money selling that at $700-800.

Well, to do Remote Play you shouldn't need internet connection. Only to be in the same LAN as the PS5.

Hoping the disc drive isn't phased out by next generation. The industry needs to get better at preservation before it goes digital only.
As of now 2/3 of the PS games are bought digitally. And this doesn't include F2P or game subs, so the percentage of games played that are bought physically must be way smaller.

And the percentage of digital keeps growing. By 2027, once the next gen releases, it shoud be way smaller, almost zero. I think that at that point, it would be a good idea to sell the console without disc drive but to sell the disc drive as a detachable add-on mostly for BC (hopefully accepting and playing PS1-PS2-PS3-PS4-PS5 games). That BC disc drive addon would be even cooler if also included UMD drive for PSP games, Vita card reader and memory PS1 & PS2 memory card readers, and even the required PS3 HW too difficult to emulate if needed.

I will be there day 1 for the PRO for sure... but I still dont like the idea of pro. Muddying the water for devs and customers. Little more to offer and so on. Just feels like milking since the gen barely started
