I wonder if this will be the first Sony flat screen IP to transition to VR?

I believe Sony have said they want all future IPs to have some form of VR mode. That would mean a TLOU2 PS5 (PSVR2) only version.

I doubt it. TLOU existing games are not suited for VR

Too many mechanics that would need simplifying.
Like what? Dodging? Going prone? I don't really agree, as you could simply break those actions down into separate movements. I can't think of any other mechanics that need simplifying.

TLOU in its current form maybe. A spin off or alternate mode would work, or even a huge screen mode.

It would need changes to existing mechanics. More below.

Prone, jumping, listening mode, stealth... Lots of mechanics need changing or simplifying.

Horizon had the same obstacles and we're getting call of the wild. It can be done.

As I remember Sony never said that, but a rumor from a source who leaked most of the PSVR2 specs mentioned that Sony wanted to get more AAAish games supporting the device.

As I remember the most similar thing that Jim Ryan said was that this time with PSVR2 they were making a bigger effort to make and sign more and bigger VR games, that they were investing more money on this than they did in PSVR1. Something we already saw so far getting for the launch window Horizon CoM, RE4R, RE Village, No Man's Sky, Among Us VR, Firewalk Ultra, the Walking Dead sequel and so on. It means way more money than the one they did spend on PSVR1 launch window games, more AAAish games and bigger IPs signed.

I don't think they'll adapt TLOU2, I think they'll do AAAish dedicated VR games of Sony IPs as they did with Horizon, because it requires a ton of different things from controls to mechanics to camera and different enemy spawning and pacing, UI, tricks to avoid motion sickness / dizziness / etc and so on. If they adapt an existing flat game to VR I think it would be GT7.

You are right. They want that all AAA games would support PSVR2 with minimal effort. It all depends if Sony will persue it and push it to masses.

A lightning rework alone would do wonders btw.

Lightning has improved drastically this gen. It stands out now for previous gen games especially when they’re running on next gen hardware with performance enhancements.

Thank you for the confirmation in regards to the rumours and official position from Sony.

Gt7 VR has to be nailed on. They did GTVR on PsVR1 so I would be shocked if they didn't.

I'd like Sony to move away from FPS games as the VR go to genre and add some new TPS or isometric games. I'll happily settle to play every game in cinema mode

Yes, I think GT7 is the most likely first because they have the experience from the previous one, plus it's easier to adapt racing games and also fit better VR (being inside a cockpit/vehicle helps a lot for the motion sickness/dizziness/etc) and needs less adaptations regarding controls, camera, UI, etc.

Plus also the visuals of GT7 didn't look super top tier for a PS5, maybe not only because of being crossgen but instead from maybe also having an hypothetical VR version in the works, which may or many not exist.

Also, when Sony mentioned the haptics on the headset itself (not in the controllers) also mentioned that it would be good to provide feedback of acceleration in vehicles. Something that can be applied to a ton of games, but I think GT is the most likely project to use it.

The haptic feedback is going to a big step forward in VR if it does what Sony state it will.

I have a sneaking feeling that GT7 wasn't designed for flat screens and the VR version will look better. I think a lot of first party games will look better on VR than their flat screen equivalents.

I wouldn't mind tlou2 ps5 native port but hope it's physical release.
Dualsense, instant loading, maybe 4k with vrr. The game is soft looking, so 4k would help

They just need to make it look exactly the same as PT 1, which is an improvement over PT 2.

Straight from Neil's mouth. So it might not be true at all. That might include TLOU 3.
