Series S being sold for $220 and Sony can't put PS5 under $400? Can we call bullshit?

How is 'that the point' are you saying playstation needs to make trillions to get ahead of Microsoft because that's never going to happen
PS needs to make money because sony is not a triple trillion dollar company, therefore they can't just randomly make price cuts.

No idea, I believe last info we have from Sony is that PS5 is being sold at a profit, considering it's selling similar to PS4 I don't think they find it necessary to do price cuts.
We heard ps5 disc model was turning a profit back in 2021 but a lot has changed sense than including high inflation and increases in sourcing some material. They are saving money on a little less material cost, manufacturing only one model and logistics with the revision but inflation is still significantly cutting into cost.

Two different products, of course.

Target is currently selling Series S for $220.

Considering the hardware differences, is it not reasonable to assume that Sony could lower PS5 prices to at least sub 400? Maybe even 350 if they need to hit sales targets?

Tell me your opinion and provide insight if you work in tech below.

Sony is already selling their console at a loss and the cost of making it (components, shipping) kept rising, unlike in previous generations where over time costs when down, which allowed price cuts years after release.

So the more consoles they sell, the more they lose with hardware. And they are selling a lot of them, so that is affecting SIE/Sony profitability, so to apply a price cut would make things even worse. They prefer to keep the price as it is (after they rised them some time ago) to don't affect more their profitability.

Unlike Microsoft, Sony wants to have a profitable gaming business. MS doesn't give a fuck about profitability and don't sell a shit, so they price cut it desperate for attention. Other than that, some retailers sometimes do isolate discounts to clear stock selling it cheaper, which can be the case linked in the OP.

Why would Sony want to lower the price of the PS5?

Unless they're piling up unsold consoles, that's just a bad business decision.
It's still much cheaper to get a PS5 than to build a PC with similar gaming performance, so that's probably why they're not lowering the price anytime soon.
