For those who don't know, Microsoft's weeping during the last gen and their paltry-in-comparison but noisy user base led to changes in Sony's policy on crossplay, giving lifeblood to the mummified husks of multiplayer communities on Xbox by allowing Xbox to access Playstation 4's enormous player pools.

They needed access to PlayStation's users to keep engagement on their platform high, and invented a corporate persona where they only wanted all users to be able to play together in harmony, without those pesky barriers Xbox had a hand in constructing.

These pleas came, of course, after Microsoft refused to allow crossplay from a position of relative power during their Xbox 360 days, leading to FFXIV skipping the platform entirely:

But their hypocrisy should surprise no one and it's time to punish them for it.

With multiplatform, multiplayer titles selling 3-8 times better on PlayStation 5 than on Xbox, in every territory, across every genre, is it time that Sony cut off the #GangGreen that is the Xbox community and started afresh?

Hammer the nails in and set the coffin ablaze.

They should have never bowed to a one sided public pressure. A literal smear campaign orchestrated by Xbox and their media shills with the help of Nintendo.

3rd party devs jumped to Xbox defense because it would keep their servers populated on all fronts.

Had Sony not bowed to pressure it would significantly weakend Xbox stance with 3rd party devs by the end of the gen, with all them empty servers.

I don't think they will reverse the policy though since 3rd party devs have to pay them for cross play now lol.

It's like PC ports. The opportunity cost is far greater than any middling, temporary profits you get from the PC or crossplay-loving-dev paypigs.

The ship has sailed moreover they own the biggest IPs sony depends upon that is the sole reason Microsoft did the purchase so sony could not command or twist their hands in the future

Sony has gone soft. If we had someone like Kutaragi in-charge I'm sure he would have never agreed to open up the walled garden player pool.

Without cross play they would have leverage to simply lockdown certain GaaS games by simply saying they'll allow PC.

They could have gotten Battlefield this way...but alas

CoD needs PlayStation not the other way around. Sony could've removed it from the store front entirely and it would've immediately devalued the ABK acquisition by 50%. It would hurt Sony but it'd hurt Xbox much more. CoD (and every other game) does so poorly on Xbox, ABK almost stopped bothering porting it there entirely.

I would say yes but I don't think msft cares it's beneficial to them on both the side of the spectrum not allowing crossplay will give them a lot of reasons in the court of law to use it against sony

Peach take. Reeks of Microsoft and Phil Spencer's juices.

Good take. Xbox has no leverage because they need Sony. Sony saying they'll no longer allow crossplay quickens the death of Xbox for every title, including Microsoft's own ones.

They should use that as leverage to continue to receive premium skins, exclusive betas etc.

If we take off our fanboy glasses if say sony does not allow crossplay Microsoft can prove that sony is trying to oust them out of the market by anti competitive conduct and would had been far more easy for them to buy ABK
Nonsense. This argument wouldn't even stand considering Sony could counteract by showing proof it was Xbox who in-fact was the reason Crossplay was not an industry standard going all the way back to Final Fantasy 11.

Access to Sony's walled garden isn't Microsoft's right as a competitor.

Fuck #GangGreen, fuck Microsoft, and fuck Xbox.

If we take off our fanboy glasses, how will you know which threads to worm your way into? You joined this forum with a Halo avatar and an inability to spell 'PlayStationSucks'.

Me think If they can ignore Matt bootys email they can even ignore this and they are masters of setting themselves up as a victim
