The Bungie deal closed much faster than expected (Fall 2022). So now who will buy Sony next?
You remember Jeff Grubb said a while back, there is definitely coming some bigger acquisition than Bungie?

So I thought I will do a poll with a handful and most likely candidates. I am excited who will join the Japanese next!

Ember Lab and Deviation Games will be bought -- sooner or later. Seems like Square Enix is inevitable too. Just a matter of time.

I'm more interested in left-field acquisitions (like Bungie was a surprise). Will Sony make a move for WB or Ubisoft? Those are more interesting possibilities to think about.

Arc system has a deal with some Chinese company right?.

Where is crapcom in that list?

People say is SE.

But yeah, Ember lab and deviation make sense and they will be cheaper.

Hopefully a publisher before Microsoft buys another one. Because they are gonna buy the industry at this rate. Or someone like Google, Amazon etc

Publishers:
Square, Warner, Sega, Konami IP.
( Capcom and Namco not for sale. EA and Rockstar too expensive. Ubi = no thanks )

As for studios…. Whoever. Ember, Ark, Nihon Falcon, Deviation.
Obviously Id prefer FromSoft and Kojima but thats not happening

Sony (Music) acquired Lasengle, but other than that all the studios they bought are western and they want to grow particularly in Asia, I think they will buy something in Japan if the other part wants to sell. I also think the move they did with Bungie keeping their publishing label and being inside SIE but outside PS Studios publishing multiplatform games is something they may at least partially with publishers they may buy in the future.

I would buy Capcom and FromSoft (buying the whole Kadokawa if needed), but I think they'll buy Square Enix because it's stronger in PC with the MMORPG FFXIV, in mobile with (something Sony wants to do) adaptations of their console IPs to mobile without going crazy with lootboxes and because with them they'd become market leaders in the RPG genre, which is bigger in sales than fighting or soulsborne.

I think way later if their next project progresses well somewhere in the future they'd buy Deviation, Firewalk and (who I'd give a 2nd party game right now) Emberlab. But I also think they'll buy some support studio, probably another porting one, some other VR focused studio and some other mobile focused studio.

I really hope for something big like Square Enix. Sony suffered $20B just from losing Activision Blizzard if you remember. I think that would push Sony's grow in some way. the good thing, the obstacle Bungie is now gone.

I said this in the discord, sony needs to take advantage of the fact the MS is still tied up with the activision blizzard deal and lock down square and fromsoft ASAP. Even if they have to overpay.

With that said i think Deviation will be announced soon, IMO.

Yep, apart from the usual suspects (Ember Lab, Deviation, Square Enix etc.), I think Sony will buy a support studio or two (e.g., Iron Galaxy) and 2-3 VR studios (Camoflaj, First Contact, Polyarc, etc.).

That makes more sense and will yield more games.

People underestimate support studios because those acquisitions aren't as sexy but are so important.

PlayStation does not have an IP problem. They just need more talented devs to work on games. Studios like Valkryie and Iron Galaxy are great to help bigger studios like Naughty Dog and Santa Monica to ship games quickly.

I don’t think they’re buying any big publishers rn and SE is out of the question because they have business beyond gaming. And I don't think Sony wants to have manga and other business beyond gaming. Besides, they don't really need it... SE is happy making games exclusively for PS.

SE's other businesses are mobile gaming, Manga and some anime, music, and some toys. Everything but the toys align with what sony as a whole want to focus on. Not saying SE is on their radar, but business wise their interests align.

Sony themselves have a big anime/manga publishing labels. Besides that and gaming, they have Mobile Games and movies. This are all core pillars for Sony’s corporation. The toy fabrication would be interesting, because they could let them produce for example merchandise for Sony’s other gaming IPs. IMO no other big fish makes sense as them. Capcom s not happening same goes for Bandai.
