It's been over a week since the game released and we haven't seen a single announcement about the sales, the game seems to have "millions of players" on gamepass but as for actual sales it doesn't seem to be doing too well?

It didn't really boost Xbox Gamepass numbers either since they are still at 25 million players.

After all that "hype" it ended up flopping after all?

It apparently did well in UK boxed sales? So I doubt it's a complete flop. And given MS knows Game Pass cannibalizes sales, it's hard to say what their expectations were.

The REAL measure of success for them will be how many GP subs it generated, and how many will be retained.

Microsoft confirmed they are still officially at 25 million GP subscribers so it hasn't increased it by anything significant.

I think it's safe to stay Starfield is a flop

It definitely flopped per the hype it had. Likely has sold a couple million (3-5) copies. But we know 75% of those playing were on Game Pass, and we know Steam numbers don't show a blockbuster success. The average WOM from non-shills is what does the most damage vis-a-vis BG3's positive reception. They likely sold to everyone hyped, long time fans, Xbox customers, and then normal customers who were interested, but not much beyond it. We don't know if it is a commercial failure since Microsoft will never release the numbers. If the budget was $400m, They would need to sell more than 5m copies to break even. Not a stellar performance.

No. They said its their biggest Bethesda launch ever

Until i see some actual sales data, i don't believe anything Phil Spencer and his crew say.

It also didn't really increase gamepass subs, yet another flop thanks to Phil Spencer

Such an indeginous lie
Yeah people can talk about sold through to consumers all they want but these companies don't sell directly to consumers. Xbox's businesses model with GP eliminated selling 12m copies by giving access away to 75% of the players at $10 a month. They didn't even state the time frame for the 6m players, or what metric a "player" is (ie play for 10m, delete and cancel gamepass = player; play on Steam for 2h, hate it, refund = player). Same thing with Netflix counting anyone who watches 2m of a show as a viewer. It's not a comparable metric to sales, it's not a comparable metric to 12m shipped to customers (businesses).

It's their biggest when it comes to their player count, but we know the player count doesn't tell us much when it's on Game Pass.

We also know how MS loves to brag about player count numbers because it's an easy marketing tactic.

Not saying it flopped, but we don't have enough data to see how it's really doing.

It did not do well in the UK when looking at boxed sales.

15k first week which even with an 80% digital share puts it below Fallout 76.

4k in Spain week 1 is the only other number we have.

Did it get already GP subscribers to play it? Yes.

Did it get additional people to buy an Xbox or subscribe to GP? No.

They couldn’t turn the tide in their favour.

If Starfield couldn’t do it for Microsoft no game will this generation.

They are done.

Expect 120 million PS5s to be sold just like the PS4.
