Sony are making a Destiny game for mobile, where there is no interest and no audience, yet no Destiny 3 in sight for console.

Idk, there could be an audience on mobile. I've seen plenty of people playing cod and other shooters on mobile since covid, even some of my coworkers who are otherwise casual gamers play decently intensive games (read:, real games that aren't candy crush) on their phones. The thing is you need to be a first mover and entrench yourself

Sony continue to make bad calls, denying the Destiny audience a full sequel and yet funding a mobile version for an audience on mobile that doesn't exist.

This contract with Netease was signed before Sony acquired Bungie.

I honestly don’t see what the issue is here and what relevance it has to Destiny 3.

This game is being developed by Netease with Bungie assistance.

Destiny 3 is not being developed because Bungie have their hands tied with Marathon and Destiny 2.

Either way, the mobile game is doubtful to have a big audience and they absolutely need to get working on D3.

Nomatter how either situation came about.

There's no interest in a Destiny mobile game?

Didn't they say the same thing about Diablo...which crossed a billion dollars super quickly?

To be fair I was always against Destiny sequels.

Why not big updates? Destiny 1.x updated to Destiny 2.x.... updated to Destiny 3.x.
Always maintaining the player progress and stats.
Not starting as everything new.

Said that Destiny mobile interest is probably pretty huge.

Agree about Destiny 3. Bungie need to start developing it.

About mobile, we honestly don’t know. It could have a bigger audience than the PC/Console counterparts.

Mobile version games when done right seem to outnumber their PC/Console counterparts in player numbers.

Doesn’t COD Mobile have more players than the other platforms combined?

This Destiny mobile game will flop. There’s no excitement for Destiny especially with no Destiny 3 in sight for console & pc.

I do think there should be Destiny mobile games both covering the pvp & pve space but if this mobile game is anything like mainline Destiny + it only allows you to play as characters with no customization it will either flop or further cannibalize the console & pc version of Destiny if it’s to alike

What’s the issue here?

Isn’t it obvious Netease are making this game with Bungie assistance.

How does this have any bearing on Destiny 3?
The fact that there’s a Destiny mobile games while the mainline continues to shrink is the reason a Destiny mobile game will flop. Why would Destiny fans or casuals care about a Destiny mobile game when it’s uncool to play Destiny & the franchise as a whole holds no future.

Bungie should be all hands on deck on a Destiny 3 (PS & PC release) then when you make the community excited for Destiny that’s when you drop a Destiny mobile game. Also tying it to a Destiny tv show, movie, anime.

This is actually how Sony should try to expand their reach. Separate mobile entries/spin-offs of their IPs, developed by partner studios, so that their own studios can concentrate on fully utilizing all of the console's capabilities.

No chances that your core users are going to jump to another platform, but high chances that people getting into the mobile games might want to try the "real stuff".

And what's more important: no harms done to your core userbase by decreasing the quality and quantity of your games because of multiplatform development.

Agree.

Mobile should have been the focus all along if Sony wanted to expand their business and make more money.

It doesn’t directly compete with their console business unlike PC so won’t affect hardware and software sales.

There is also more money to be made than the peanuts they are making on PC especially when done right.

But....you can't create an audience on mobile phones if you don't release games for mobile phone

Mobile audience is a completely different audience. Again why link to Destiny 3 and console/pc gamers.

We don’t even have the details yet for this game.

What type of game it is or its release.

Neither do we know whether Destiny 3 isn’t in development.

Heck it could be a Mobile and PC release similar to Diablo Immortal.

How it this bad news? It's bad when they port to PC so they should use mobile to grow. They do just that and it's bad?

Especially since it isn't Bungie doing it.

But that's the exactly wrong angle to see it. You don't need to have AAA console games on mobile.

You need mobile games on mobile and AAA (but also AA and A) console games on consoles.

If you have a likeable IP, you will find audience on both platforms with completely different experiences.
