They’re already on it. LolThe funniest part is that all of the Xbox fanboys that will no doubt be making videos about this didn't even know who she was last week, but will be trying to convince everyone that PlayStation is burning to the ground and doomed without her. Xbox can't look good unless PlayStation is made to look bad.
You can fart while playing a Sony game on your couch and they turn that in to an ominous sign of Sony's destructionUp until yesterday the MS astroturfers had no idea she existed. Now all of a sudden it's a major deal.
Funny how major loss of talent in Xbox studios wasn't that big of a deal for these people.
And if the rumor that she was fired because of the GaaS push, good riddance.
ExactlyDeep down the Xbox fans know they are in trouble. Spider-Man is gonna do numbers, new ps5 etc.
Meanwhile Xbox is still struggling after nearly 100 billion invested.
They are using these small issues to make themselves feel better.
If the rumors are true, at least it would indicate that Sony are maybe learning not to force their devs to make things they don't want to make, though that's a big IF given that these narratives come from Jaffe, who has a serious hate boner and axe to grind with PlayStation. I DO think they need a plan to stay relevant and preserve relationships and access to fan-favorite franchises in the face of out-of-control consolidation though. I also think that a lot of the anxiety/concern trolling around PlayStation 1st party right now comes from them not wanting to announce anything until very close to launch. If it were just Connie leaving I'd believe it the opposite, but Jim Ryan also departing lends a lot of credence to this speculation. I think internally, Sony are shifting away from the heavy internal GaaS push (and, hopefully, seriously adjusting the PC strategy as well to just GaaS and maybe collections of remastered catalog titles with QoL enhancements), hence the departures we're seeing.
The truth is we really don't know what new non-GaaS titles were greenlit by Jim Ryan post-2019; none of them have released yet and very few (namely Wolverine) have been revealed officially. The marginal increase in funding for non-GaaS titles through FY '25 means little when considering the AAA games are growing in size, meaning larger budgets overall. At least, that's with working off the percentages; we don't actually know what Sony's fiscal funding budget for software development through FY '25 was set at, in dollar/yen amounts.
If there weren't that many such games greenlit under Ryan's tenure, then it's possible for next year and even 2025, it might be a bit light from Sony 1P WRT non-GaaS releases. They'd be relying heavily on co-developed/funded 3P exclusives like Rise of the Ronin and Stellar Blade, and timed exclusives like FF VII Rebirth, to do much of the heavy lifting. That's the price paid for pivoting to a GaaS strategy that might've ultimately been too aggressive too soon.
The good news is, if what I'm speculating is true, then Sony are course-correcting now, versus waiting a year or two. If they would also expand back to doing some internal AA software development, then we could see a return of non-GaaS 1P releases happening regularly by sometime in the back half of 2025. Not saying there wouldn't be any non-GaaS 1P releases from Sony between now and then; Wolverine will release during that period, and we might get something from one of Sony's other studios in terms of AAA during that period, too.
But otherwise, yeah, we might just be looking at, say, that rumored GOW DLC/expansion, maybe a few PSVR2 games and anything else would be with 3P. I know the HFW PC port is coming next year...in all honesty that should be the last of Sony's current-gen ports to PC unless it's a GaaS title like Helldivers 2. They can't risk eroding favor with console enthusiasts if there are few 1P non-GaaS releases on console AND yet more non-GaaS titles get ported to PC simultaneously. Not a good look. But, again, PC would be great for things like collections of remastered legacy (PS1/2/3...some PS4) titles.
However in terms of messaging and communication of those games to come? Well that could start anytime. Wasn't a big fan of this "wait six months/one year before release to reveal a game" Sony took. Yes they revealed games like Dreams and The Last Guardian too early, but those were exceptions. Otherwise Sony always delivered or exceeded reveal expectations for the stuff they showed off 1P-wise.
Forcing devs? Tht is a new assumption and narrative under Ryan. Sony for the past few decades were known for giving their devs creative freedom to do what they want to do hence the MM games, Ghost of T, TLOU, Returnal etc.... I mean there were interviews about this all through the years so much so that Microsoft jumped in the bandwagon and started parroting the same points during interviews. If the rumors are true, at least it would indicate that Sony are maybe learning not to force their devs to make things they don't want to make, though that's a big IF given that these narratives come from Jaffe, who has a serious hate boner and axe to grind with PlayStation. Sony didn’t force their devs to do anything. They bought Haven amd Firewalk for multiplayer and ND wanted to make that multiplayer game themselves. If the rumors are true, at least it would indicate that Sony are maybe learning not to force their devs to make things they don't want to make, though that's a big IF given that these narratives come from Jaffe, who has a serious hate boner and axe to grind with PlayStation. Yeah Sony from what has been said all these tears is pretty laid back letting their devs create their visions.Sony didn’t force their devs to do anything. They bought Haven amd Firewalk for multiplayer and ND wanted to make that multiplayer game themselves.
