It wont be a showcase, if it's happening it will be a State of Play
They have many first party games or 3rd party exclusives coming 2024 or early 2025 that still don't have a specific release date, or maybe even haven't shown proper gameplay of them. Plus whatever announcements they may have to make (maybe also including here movie/tv adaptations or PC ports).

They have a substantial amount of material to make a showcase. In addition to this, Hermen and Nishino pretty likely will say hi and explain their new role plus present the games of their areas.

I think they'll make it early June, together with the other conferences as traditionally did outside the recent exceptions (a year with no showcase, another one in May, another one in September...).

Jeff Grubb has no insider info, just like anyone else makes his personal guesses and repeats rumors heard somewhere else and sometimes gets it right. But sometimes are total fakes, like the Sly game or -apparently- this one.

If there is a showcase before the end of the month I'll be expecting it to be absolutely shite otherwise they would've announced it earlier to generate more hype
Not sure... people are using old way of Sony announces.
What Sony do since late 2023 is...

The last 40 minutes showcase:
Announce: January 29 (Mon)
Event: January 31 (Wed)

This showcase will be announced next week.
It just that people are well a bit anxious.

Generally they announce it 1 week before

If there's no announcement today, in my opinion it's all but dead for May, but we'll see.

Just to put something here...

Sony used to announces events a week before.
Sony is announcing events in 2024 two days before the show.

People are not getting that I guess.

This show will be announced next week on Monday.
The show will happen between Tuesday and Thuesday.

It's unlikely anything gets announced next Monday, it is Memorial Day in the US.
PlayStation HQ is in the US, but even without taking that into account...
Most global brands avoid big marketing news on this day because it's all about exposure and the US is a huge part of the market.

If it is a holiday the it will be announced on Tuesday.

Sony is decreasing the time between announcement and show since 2023 and the last ones were 2 days before the show.

The last 40 minutes show (big one) was announced 2 days before.

I am fairly sure that all(?) State of Plays are announced 2-3 days before.
Like @Evilms has highlighted in his previous post that it's the PS showcases that get announced more days in advance.

This is why PS fans across the world are in hopium mode today.
If not today, it means that May is not going to feature a PS showcase.

People do not want a show branded as a State of Play.

I mean, US+UK are two of the largest markets, so yeah it matters.
But the US holiday is good enough not to post it on that day.

All Sony shows since well before COVID are like State of Play… like all Nintendo are Nintendo are Direct.

The difference is the time… some are 20 minutes… few are 40 minutes and even fewer are 80 minutes.

All live streaming shows…

We've not had a massive one that blows away for so long though

Not showcase but I honestly prefer a SoP more.

They're going to focus on titles we know about & we won't have to wait 2 years for games to launch (if it was a showcase)

& obviously It's better to be more balanced, show presence at every event like TGA and Summer Game Fest.

Excited to see more on Until Dawn in UE5 hopefully we get a release date, obviously would like more on Concord.

Hopefully we get something on Asobi's game & Phantom Blade Zero.
