That was never in question2023 was always going to be the peak year, it's the 3rd year AND there was pent up demand.

not for gaming, won't serve us for nothing, unless you want to play Spongebob games on your PlayStationSeems like a good move.
Paramount owns a lot of good stuff.
why is it that other divisions at Sony get money to make multi billion dollar acquisitions, but their biggest division, PlayStation, has to rely on smaller acquisitions? with 10B dollars they can buy Square Enix, Kadokawa (FromSoftware) and KoeiTecmo combined, this is ridiculous, SONY NEEDS MORE STUDIOS AND IPS, 2023 we only had one AAA game (Spiderman 2) and 2024 we have nothing from first party
Paramount will bring us what? Spongebob? Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? these are IPs mainly for children, it won't appeal to the vast majority of PlayStation users, WB would suit us way better
i know they need to want to sell, but i'm just saying that it may be too much money for something that will not benefit their biggest division, PlayStation, Sony needs more game studios, we're having a dry 2023/2024 because they simply don't have enough studios to sustain the platform, games are taking 5 years to make, they just laid off 900 people this is not the time to make a 10 billion dollar acquisitionTo acquire somebody, they need to want to sell.
SE/Kadokawa/KT and WB are not in the market to sell, it's simple as that.
WB is already significantly more expensive than Paramount to acquire and Sony is already partnering up to bid for Paramount. WB would be even more difficult to acquire/merge considering anti-trust regulations.
As a matter fact, Paramount is still part of the Big Five(Disney/WB/Universal/Sony/Paramount) and it's not even a guarantee that regulators let that through anyway.
If you think video game publishing consolidation has been bad, they've got nothing on US Movie/TV giants.
That shit has long been ridiculous.
PlayStation as we knew it is dead. Just move on from them
A Sony with ip like Marvel & Starwars exclusive under PS would make PS Nintendo kinda level ip power wise & absolute unthinkable amount of power from a ip standpoint.
Paramount will bring us what? Spongebob? Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? these are IPs mainly for children, it won't appeal to the vast majority of PlayStation users, WB would suit us way better
we'll play Dora and Spongebob games on PlayStation, yay, can't waitParamount sucks, why not just wait and pick up their IPs when it gets liquidated in an eventual bankruptcy?
When will you people realise there's more to Sony than PlayStation? Sony might actually want to give a shit about both. But nooooo, do what eternal wants.Oh god please not.
Edit: Seems like a joint venture buy. But still this would devour massively budget. For gods sake Sony, acquire someone like Square Enix or Sega, of which Sony as entire Corporation would benefit!
Seems like a good move.
Paramount owns a lot of good stuff.
Finally. Two people on this website with common sense. When will you people realise there's more to Sony than PlayStation? Sony might actually want to give a shit about both. But nooooo, do what eternal wants.
“Movies are a dying business” LMAO Gamers are a special case man.Modern Sony leadership is seriously out of touch with reality, Movies are a dying buisness while gaming is on the up.
Playstation is Sony's biggest money maker yet it is constantly treated like the redheaded stepchild
Looking at Paramount now after all of the conversations buying Paramount wouldn’t be bad thoe I’d still say there are better companies with stronger & more flexible ip then the ones Paramount have.A partnership with WB for both movies and games would be better than this but at this point there's nothing we can do. Sony doesn't care about investing in their gaming division. Bungie was it.

This has been my thought ever since Jim Ryan retired.i've completely lost faith in the future of the PlayStation brand...
