Long thread I made on Twitter, that might be unpopular but I think needs to be said.

• 45.4m PS Plus subscribers (-1.8m)
• PS5 & PS4 software combined sold 62.5m units (-13.9m)
• MAU's down to 102 M

I am not worried about those numbers as this is the first full year people have been back to work.
PS numbers have been dancing around 45 - 47 Million since 2020 with highs of 46 - 48 so it is about right imo.
With more PS5s getting into people's hands over the holidays these numbers should increase (Sales and Subscriptions) for the next Quarter

PlayStation 5 has shipped 25 million units worldwide, Sony announced in its financial results for the fiscal year ended September 30, 2022. • 45.4m PS Plus subscribers (-1.8m) • PS5 & PS4 software combined sold 62.5m units (-13.9m)

Down to 102 million monthly active users while Steam users increased....

I am very disappointed and worried about how PlayStation is being managed for its longterm health. I can already see eroding of the userbase.
  • Best Q2 revenue for any console maker in gaming history (in yen).
  • PS Plus revenue (network services) +17% YoY. With the change they didn't increase the subs but many people migrated to more expensive tiers. Subs and revenue should go up with big Q3 HW sales.
  • MAU decreased only 1M vs previous quarter, or 2M YoY. In Q3 should go up specially if they achieve great HW sales as they are supposed to.
  • They seem to have acquired enough chips for the H2 FY2022, are confident to achieve the 18M, meaning over 12M in the next two quarters.

The rebranding of PS Now worked it seems. Some people are now effectively paying for Plus + Now, under the impression that it's a "better Plus". Except there no longer is any way to only subscribe to PS Now.

Yep, there were plenty of good things in there.... I am just worried about MAU's and software sales trends.

Combined with my perception of PC ports as a threat and Steam being cheaper for games..... just hope they are not losing players to PC.

Seemed to get a lot of backlash on Twitter for my take.

As someone who just got a Deck, I already pay less attention to PSN sales than before. Surely Jimbo could see that coming?
The most likely answer is that all he cares about is his retirement bonus, with little care for costumer satisfaction or brand value in the long term.

It's so good to hear that....because with the reaction I got from some people on twitter, you'd think I was some crazy hater of PlayStation.

God of war and Spiderman on PC sold like 3+ Million each. Thats extra revenue with very little overhead coming in as a source to Playstation.

Doesn't matter if you bought it on PC or PS5 they got you're money and for the most part makes people a fan of their branded Playstation Studios. So the odds of someone who has both PC/PS5 buying it on one of the platforms is high. If Horizon:FW is $70 on steam and sells a couple million thats a good amount of revenue coming in where they had to invest very little to get a return.

You are always going to have games that dont do well like sackboy, and uncharted. Which I think Uncharted being re-released multiple times didn't do it any favors in getting high sales volumes on PC.

But once they release last of us Part1 and part 2 as a package deal they will sell as many if not more than God of war/Spiderman on PC. Same goes for Ghosts.

And I see returnal being a big hit among hardcore crowd on PC for rogue type of games. I see that to be a long term evergreen. It may not come out the gate selling a couple million in its first 6-12 months. But I see it consistently being bought through out certain times of the year.

You've always been right. Sony been shit direction wise since like mid 2019. When did Jimbo win that power struggle again exactly?

If my PS5 continues to be undeserved in regard to its own features, and is essentially an early access box for a PC release later (and that's if the game in question didn't receive a PS5+PC release), I'm just going in on the GPD WIN 4 as a portable Vita stand in.

i hope that sony cancel most of their future PC ports and simply focus on the playstation hardware , that is the key to their success

It's a primary to their success. But having more people buy you're games benefits you more with renewable revenue. You can only make so much off of what you sell hardware wise. So if they hit a 100 Million there's only so much growth or renewable revenue.

When you have both 100 Million PS5 owners but then expand to PC for them to buy you're brand of headsets, PSVR, DUAL SENSE and games. Then the net gets larger in what you can get.

Imagine all the PC people buying Playstation branded controllers/Mice/VR and buying Playstation VR/First party titles that sync to PSN? Imagine PSN type store where you can link up all your game saves?

Imagine you buy a physical or on PSN and get a PC copy as well to use on Playstations own launcher that syncs all your playstation stuff? I would love to be playing Last of us MP with my friends on psn, then no matter what I use we can all talk to each other via discord and all my Experience goes with me?

Sony is not Nintendo. Nintendo hoards their earnings and only spends when they believe necessary. ANd thats why they are starting to slow. Now they have to launch a new piece of hardware, and also why their games dont change in price.

Because they have no online title that can pull in the amount of money they would lose if they started bringing their games prices down.

Sony is doing the opposite.

Second biggest Q2 revenue ever.

As we all know revenue is the important one and everything else should be ignored, this quarter.

That is such a short sighted viewpoint... This is a parody Jim Ryan's viewpoint right, you don't believe as a poster that profit trumps all, surely?

It's hard to believe that earning all that money Sony isn't capable of hiring decent English translators with good accent and pronunciation.

The problem is that some people thinks VGChartz are professional analysts instead of what they are, random console warriors users making fan guesses acting as if their numbers were legit. This is why they should be banned as source.
I thing that referring to them to get a ballpark idea is fine, but as someone said earlier... They definitely"underestimate" Sony and give those sales to MS... This has been like this for as long as I can remember.

Maybe they should list gamepass subs or MAUs instead of consoles for MS 🥳.

If they kill the whole thing with higher prices it will impact everything else.

My question is, how did Spiderman outsell GoW?? GoW is the better game by far
