Sony will earn more from Call of Duty this year, with a higher % cut per sale.

Her spin is telling.
Better deal = same deal PS has with all publishers.

Kotick at least gone negotiate and get a discount… she basically is getting happy with what everybody else pays 🤷🏻‍♂️
I can't find it but believe it was in the UK with CMA court that Kotick basically threatened Xbox with witholding CoD stating it was not worth putting it there if they didn't match or lower their margins share like Sony did. Only difference is that Sony got full marketing and the typical stuff they do like early access, beta etc. in exchange.

Meservey had no plans in staying with Xbox she just wanted the deal to go through and leave with a briefcase full of cash. That's exactly what she and other execs did, I don't blame them. Jim was the only one in the way of their fat payday but he was leveraging for better terms and more time.

Sony had a 20% cut on COD games under Activision, now they have the standard 30% cut under Microsoft. Sony is now getting a bigger bag from COD. No more marketing cost and they are getting an extra 10% in revenue from COD sales which is all profit for Sony. Revenue in Q4 of this year will be up YoY because of this and the Pro 🙂
"We were absolutely thrilled to be able to negotiate a deal with Microsoft to ensure that the franchise remains available on PlayStation platforms for the next 10 years," Ryan shared. "And that was very important to us and we're very happy to have done that deal."

Interviewer : But why not accept the initial deal?

"There's deals, then there's deals. The deal that was offered at a certain point of time might not have been the deal that was signed." -Jim Ryan, smiling

No doubt Sony got MS by the balls and they had to bend over to get Sony to agree to a deal. Even so, the CMA strip the cloud rights from MS, and we're seeing every MS game come to PlayStation, soon to be day one.

Yeap... the Xbox narrative make it seems like the deal they offered was the same deal Sony accepted later.
Of course it wasn't.

Uncle Phil lied that the first deal was "an offer that goes well beyond typical gaming industry agreements".

Ryan reply: "I hadn’t intended to comment on what I understood to be a private business discussion, but I feel the need to set the record straight because Phil Spencer brought this into the public forum, Microsoft has only offered for Call of Duty to remain on PlayStation for three years after the current agreement between Activision and Sony ends.

After almost 20 years of Call of Duty on PlayStation, their proposal was inadequate on many levels and failed to take account of the impact on our gamers. We want to guarantee PlayStation gamers continue to have the highest quality Call of Duty experience, and Microsoft’s proposal undermines this principle."

MS offered a 3 years deal.
And not the actual 10 years deal offered late and signed by Sony.
